I dunno, the NA market has the potential to be more lucrative than the Japanese market, so I feel like EarthBound doing well might spur them to shell out the (relatively minor) cost of translation, especially because a digital release means they won't have to worry about shipping/packaging a physical product.

What was bad about Mother besides the grinding and censorship? I played a ROM that removed censorship and reduced grinding and wild encounters, and I thought the game was great.

I just don't see a Mother 3 release as likely. That Mother fansite Starmen.net has been trying to get a US release of that game for the last ~7 years without success. Nintendo has made it clear to them that they just don't give a fuck and won't release the game.

Too much grinding, bad random encounter system, ugly graphics (not just because its an NES game, it just looks bad), unintuitive game interface (the graphics are so simple it's hard to tell what you can interact with sometimes), almost identical plot to the much superior Earthbound, worst music of the series, some bad glitches, bad translation, etc. It's like Earthbound only worse in every way.

Maybe it's because I played Mother after Earthbound, which I consider a masterpiece, but it just isn't very good in comparison. They're so similar that you can't even enjoy them both as different experiences like you could with the first 3 Mario games. It's just like the same game but one is shitty.

The problem with Mother 1 is that Earthbound is a perfect sequel to it, it improves on every element of the game so the original just seems inferior now. Also dont bother playing the official leaked localized version, there's a better translation of the gba port by the same guy who translated mother 3. I still need to beat it, I'm in magicant right now.

As much as I want to, I really doubt it. The Wii VC is gradually crumbling and it was over-all a very rough service. Not to mention, they even started to remove a few titles like Donkey Kong Country for no reason.

eShop works like a wonder in comparison without forcing you to buy fake money to get games, it kinda works like Steam now that you can just pay for the indicated price straight from your card. That mentioned, Nintendo Points are still going to be available in stores.
