I'm for this guy being CupClock, even though CupClock-2007 made an intro movie. CupClock-2007 appears to have abandoned Newgrounds in 2009.

I think we used "appeared in a movie one time therefore ITS TAKEN YOU CANT HAVE IT" as the reason Boosh couldn't be Blob, so if we're going by that rule CupClock can't be CupClock no matter how cool he is.

Here's some proposed criteria for name-stealing: the current incarnation of the Clock Crew forums has been around since August 2005. Since few primary documents from before then exist, let's say that everything earlier than that is the Prehistoric era of the Clock Crew.

• If fossilized Prehistoric evidence points to the existence of a Clock before August 2005 (e.g. BlobClock), that name is taken. Whoever it was was cool enough to know about the Clock Crew before assholes like me joined, and we probably don't have much other evidence of how cool they were.
• If the name in question belonged to someone who joined during or after August 2005, whether or not a newbie can take the name is a matter of how cool/memorable/productive/talented they are compared to the original. CupClock-2013 already has more than CupClock-2007's 9 posts, which are also collectively better than CupClock-2007's intro movie. CupClock-2007 didn't register 'CupClock' on Newgrounds, either, so bonus points.
  
• If a usurper takes some inactive loser's name, and the inactive loser comes back and gets all pissy, the final, permanent possessor of the name will be determined by an oily gladiator Flash battle.

That seems rather rude to say. You could easily just use JockClock if your character is a jock strap. We've always tried our best to reserve the names of the Clocks that came before us, in case they ever decide to come back. They shouldn't have to rename themselves. It's just how we've always done things.

I mean, even I had to double check before I became Silver Clock. There was an ancient .fla from a defunct library labeled Silver Clock but after scouring flash movies and older member registries I couldn't really find someone to dispute the name with. If someone did come back, I probably would decide to give them the name.

Agreed. There are a lot more fun things you could be beside CupClock as well. MugClock doesn't seem to be taken, or maybe StanleyClock or a variation if he really likes the idea?

You could if you wanted to. S'not like I would have a problem with it. Silver Cherry was a pretty cool dude back in the day. We've had all sorts of similar clocks in the past. It's up to the individual to make themselves memorable in a case like that.

There was a time when I tried to make a different look for my .fla, but I couldn't find an easier way to visually represent silver, so that's why it's a silver ingot.
