I need a network switch to go
(router)---->(switch)---->(PS3)

                |
                V
             ( PC )

How much should I spend, I don't want any lag/delay and don't really know anything about switches.
I will only really be using one or the other at a time, but need to split the ethernet cable between these two devices.

Gimme a min.
How much are you willing to spend

do you not have enough ports on the router?

I cant touch the router, and naw there weren't enough ports.

But, vuvu helped me out and I ended up getting a cisco switch for like $30

But a switch won't assign each device its own IP. Won't they conflict?

VuBawlsClock

it shoudn't I mean, all he is doing is expanding the ports on his router
and each device should already have it's own IP right?

Rofl you netbabies.

The switch will act like a dummy between the router and whatevers being used so itll designate different IP addresses through DHCP regardless.

Aside from such he should be perfectly fine buying any gigabit switch for gaming. I stress gigabit because if its anything less good luck with that lag.

Getting a gigabit switch when your ISP probably doesn't even provide transfer speeds over 100 mbps does what exactly?

No ones going to be downing 1/gbs from their ISP but a gigabit switch handles and routes data alot fluently than any other would Also it'd attribute to the fact that in networking when youre connected via LAN you will get 1/gbps speed WITHIN the home network. So pretty much what matters is how fast your internal network connection is.
Which is your ps3, pc, etc connecting to whatever hub.
