What if we had a subforum that was the equivalent of cc's biggest topic? It's not as though it's a black and white choice between one giant casual conversation thread and a handful that are active at any given time.

i disagree with deleting it bcause we need to somewhere for the aspies to post and not bother everyone else and also at times i like it but i think maybe you guys should refrain from posting large topics in the there ie the entire boston bombing thread

i also think deleting it will result in millions of empty or 1 reply threads or maybe even no threads at all because people wont even bother posting their crap that they realize nobody wants to see

I wouldn't make a thread about a .gif I found of stitch's balls, tho. so that .gif I posted of stitch's balls that one time? that would have just gone unposted. no stitch balls at all. and if I wanted to post about bad japanese storytelling cliches in response to a passing mention of a dating sim in a thread making fun of a tumblr convention, I wouldn't, because it's off topic, and then I might never have heard the theme song to crab nicholson's extreme sleep over. ccbt makes the desert bloom.

also I appreciate the offer but I don't like chat rooms. they move fast. I like to put thought into my phrasing. I like to make sure i understood what other people said. I like to respond to old lines of conversation. I like ccbt.

I agree, a chatroom would be a bad choice. Aside from being too fast, they are also dependent on when members are online. I like being able to read threads at my own leisure since I live in the farthest west time zone of any clock (unless we have Islanders I don't know about) and am rarely online when other clocks are awake. I also agree that the CCBT fulfills an unusual role here. Because we are a group of people tied together (nowadays) by community more than any single shared interest, we will likely spend our time in more generalized locations (General, CCBT) than more specific ones (see below).

I think one of the problems is that we have way too many subforums in the first place - the relatively little content that we have becomes incredibly spread out and leaves certain subforums dead. I mostly go to "What's New?" and see tons of posts in CCBT but relatively few anywhere else. If we were to get rid of it and not replace it with a new set of forums, then the traffic could more easily spread out amongs the other subreddits. I'm not totally opposed to getting rid of the topic, but I think replacing it with a new subforum would (as someone else said) just rob Peter to pay Paul.

Is this really an issue, or is there some underlying motive behind it?

The argument is that it is preventing people from posting elsewhere? Because people don't have free will and can't choose to post things where they want to? So you'll take away the choice and force them to make a thread. Because you should be able to do that. To "prune" posts that don't belong to you because you want them somewhere else. No one is forcing anyone to post there, and if you see something in there that you think should be its own thread, there's nothing stopping you from making a thread about it yourself. Why don't we get rid of the blast chat, too, then? I'm sure people discuss things there that "should be" threads, so instead of talking about them there why don't you just make threads about them and discuss them there?
