Hello, why did nobody tell me AHS is fucking great.
I binge watched the first 3 seasons and the first episodes of season 4.

Who else is watching?

Also season two was my favorite. In retrospect one was the worst, still fun though. I liked Tate.

Jessica Lange is amazing in all seasons.

GreyClock

I haven't, but I probably will. Have you watched True Detective yet? I've watched it six times now.

PirateClock

Yes i did. Loved it. Tried to get some other people to watch it but they couldn't get into it, one guy said he watched it but i'm not really sure he actually understood what he was watching. He told me i should watch 'the blacklist'. I did,
It was horrible.

You'll probably also like 'The Strain'. It's a cheesy vampire show by Guillermo del Toro.

You pretty much are Rust, minus the crippling alcholism and being a cop.

Yeah, with me the alcoholism is still very much in its early stages. (He typed while drinking a beer.)

But seriously True Detective is hands down the best thing I've ever seen, the atmosphere, the characters, everything was fantastic. A while ago I watched Hannibal, which is also pretty cool, but it had like an on again off again killer of the week type thing going for a while which kind of irked me, especially with every murder being an over-elaborate art installation. On top of that the writers seem contractually obliged to make every single line of dialogue psychoanalytical in nature, it's a bit much. None of the characters ever talk about normal stuff or tell a joke, at least not without it having at least three deeper meanings. I don't want to go off on (too long) a tangent so I'll just say that I have some issues with it. (O man, every single location is beautiful and for all the gruesome murders it seems like it takes place in a world where no one ever farts or takes a shit even... I can't help myself.) Anyway I understand AHS is also in the anthology format so I hope it avoids some of Hannibal's pitfalls, I'll definitely check it out.

O and are you still watching The League? Does this season seem, I don't know, kind of off and forced to you or what?

man true detective was so good until that finale wtf happened

it was hilarious

PirateClock

Yeah the league isn't as fun anymore. Seems like they are trying to hard. Doing the same trick over and over, progressively getting worse.

AHS has several intertwined stories each season, not every episode a different bad guy of the week (like Hannibal, blacklist, etc). Each seasons is a different story, set in a different time and place, it does have recurring actors playing different parts.
_pirate_butchcavities (20:29:15): FUCK CLOCKS _pirate_

GreyClock

That's kinda weird, how does that work?

PirateClock

Well every season is kinda like a miniseries, start to finish, all following the same theme of American horror legends.
They all take place in typical locations to the genre, a haunted hause, asylum, witch coven and a freakshow. Set in different time periods, the story sometimes jumps back and forth between points in time. Most of the characters are based on urban legends, horror stories or serial killers of that specific location or time. A season in New Orleans has voodoo legends while others are more 'ghost' and serial killer heavy.

According to the director all seasons are linked, which will become clearer in episodes and seasons to come.

Also i'm typing all of this on my motherfucking phone so you better watch this show.

GreyClock

No that totally put me off this show, sorry. Jessica Lange (whoever that is) is Highlander, I solved it.

damn where do i start?? the entire episode? the ridiculous cartoon villain (probably some of the worst acting ive ever seen),  rust turning into a huge gaybaby?? it was such a huge contrast to the rest of the series, it just threw it all out the window. it was terrible

i love true detective, or at least i thought i did until the ending. it went from one of the best series ive ever seen and then the finale was like a bad episode of criminal minds. if i was ever going to rewatch i would stop at episode 7 and just leave it open ended. not like the finale really wrapped anything up other than the big dumb painter idiot villain they shoehorned in gets killed and rust turns into a moron

endings are so important to a good story and they really ruined something that couldve been a masterpiece. oh well

MentosClock

I spent Halloween watching season 1 of AHS. It was pretty good. Will probably start season 2 at some point in the near future.

PirateClock

Just watch season 2 you dicks. It's the best. It has a nazi doctor and a possessed nun.

I see where you're coming from, but it didn't bother me so much. First of all he wasn't really shoehorned in, they were constantly referring to "the man with the scars". Maybe the scene with him and his half-sister felt a little shoehorned in, but there was no other way to establish something, anything about him short of writing in additional auxiliary characters to talk about him, the way we learned about the wonderful world of Reggie Ledoux. Yeah Childress turned out to be the stereotypical incestuous hillbilly but what did you expect? Marty and Rust catching the entire cult in the middle of some ceremony? Him turning out to be fucking Chtulhu himself? Like they said they might not have gotten all of them, but they got their man. Which fits nicely with Rust's change of heart and the metaphor with the stars and the darkness. Not everything is illuminated and not everything is solved, but it's a start. To me Rust didn't go all "My daddy & daughter are waiting for me in heaven with baby Jesus" in the end, he just felt a love somewhere deep inside of him, which maybe, he decided, was I don't know, just enough to become a little more optimistic about life and the universe. In fact now that I think about it, all the darkness he's been through hasn't been able to destroy the starlight that is that love, or whatever. Anyway, regardless of the interpretation, it's just character development and the characters is what the show was about in the first place. I mean he could've gone "So yeah, all this stuff we've been through has only strengthened my opinions. Goodbye." Considering his viewpoints there was pretty much nowhere else to go but up. Although I guess a cool ending could have been them getting their man and Rust eating his gun. Really graphic, in close-up. Roll credits.

I've seen the first four episodes of American Horror Story now. Don't know what to make of it yet, so much stuff is happening.

PirateClock

Yeah that what i like about it. Not just one or two main guys, but rather loads of smaller storylines with different twists. In season one each ghost has its one story. Compared to the other seasons season one is a bit mellow though, the other season are a lot darker and with deeper stories.

Tate is my favorite charackter from season one.
_pirate_butchcavities (20:29:15): FUCK CLOCKS _pirate_

GreyClock

I thought that dude was called Taint. I don't really like him yet "Let's listen to Kurt Cobain", who says that? Probably some weird demon or ghost. If this season is mellow though I don't know what to expect in the next ones. I mean: kick decorating dead gays out of house; stomach cramps; creepy ultrasound nurse faints; human torch at door kicking & screaming; o shit the gimp is standing next to cutty mchipster; mom & dad are home house ransacked; dead baby mama at the door. That's like two minutes of this show.
