I still play Carmageddon from time to time GOD DAMN MOTHA andddd if you even care about these sorts of games, I Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis was the best Jones, EchoQuest II something something Rainforest had cool art, but not exactly Day of the Tentacle, and Roller Coaster Tycoon/Age of Empires aren't exactly obscure abandonware, but they're the only reasons I have an ancient Windows partition

np! I was in the same boat until just two days ago. I think I was 7 when I played it at my grandma's old house in the mountains.

System Shock
Grim Fandango
I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream
Planescape: Torment
Fallout

I've also heard good things about The Last Express, The Longest Journey, and Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura. I still haven't found the time to play them, though.

YES. Awesome game. I played it a ton when I was a kid.

Well its the difference between "derp we should ban fatty foods" and "I am going to literally rape every american child after you vote me in"

Speaking of this thread, apparently this just came out: http://store.steampowered.com/app/348300/

ed: developed around the same time, but not released

Well I tried to download and run daggerfall on DOSBOX but couldn't figure it out. Also you guys took too long that day and I downloaded Ultima 7 and I'm pretty stuck on that now. But these are all great suggestions!

Been playing System Shock because of this thread. The interface is confusing as hell but 10 minutes later you've figured it out. The mouselook mod is useful but you gotta switch back to regular controls to mess with your inventory. I'm used to it now, cool game so far. The cyberspace segments make me feel like I'm in Neuromancer.

And it comes with Chip's Challenge 1 does it? I should buy this.

Kodiakclock

So I'm trying Chip's Challenge now since it seems to be the majority favorite

If you're looking for some classic RPGs I suggest Baldur's Gate II Complete and the Neverwinter Nights games.
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri and Heroes of Might and Magic III will scratch your strategy itch.
The best old sim games are probably Rollercoaster Tycoon Deluxe and Sim City 3000 or 4
System Shock 2 and Deus Ex are probably the best old shooters, in my opinion.
If you want point and click adventures, go with games from Sierra. King's Quest, Space Quest, Leisure Suit Larry.
If you're looking for platformers then I believe Oddworld, Abe's Odysee and Abe's Exodus have PC versions.

That should keep you busy for a while. Pretty sure you can find all these on gog.com
