Paladins are pretty cool. The extra healing is nice in a pinch and you get great saves. You need good stats, though. Whether I'd roll a paladin or a Fighter or something else largely depends on what stats I roll.

Either way, with a lots of damage melee strategy I'd say getting a falchion and building around that isn't a bad idea.

Important Feats:

Weapon Focus: Falchion
Weapon Specilaization: Falchion
Power Attack

A human fighter can start at level 1 with 2 of these. Then you just need to make your falchion keen or get a feat for it and you can crit 1/4 of the time for massive damage. Especially if you've got decent strength. I have a sasquatch anti-paladin built around this idea. It gets a little samey but if you want to kill shit with swords this will definitely do it.

BilliardBall10

ok, i will be a paladin then.

it will be cool to use healing spells, along with my 1337 swordsmanship skills

You guys don't mind firearms in your elf games do you? Because I wanna play this.

Also, did you find someone willing to DM for us?

AlbinoClock

Well I've only posted this thread and nobody in it wants to DM, so no.

BilliardBall10

DM sounds like alot of work, so i dunno.

is it easy for a noob like me to be DM of the cc?

I don't know how much of the system roll20.net handles for you. It's good to have someone with a good bit of knowledge of the system you're using. My own is somewhat patchy, but I play with a group who know most of it inside and out. It certainly is a fair bit of work. I'm running a pre-made adventure path (1-20, 6 modules), and even that leaves me with a fair bit of work to do myself. Aside from just learning the story, the characters, and the monsters and their strategies myself, sometimes I also have to put something together to fill in a gap. Like this past weekend I put together a few pages of content to fill in on the road from one place to another while 2 of my 5 players were out.

Actually that was kind of easier than learning the pre-made content in some ways. It did take quite a bit of research to get things quite the way I wanted them, but that may largely have been because I was also figuring out how to build encounters that wouldn't kill a party of 3. But yeah, the work load is why I don't want to DM. I've got one going and two is a bit much.

But, again, I don't know how much of  the system roll20 handles for you. I haven't actually used it yet, I just know it exists and takes care of the minis. If it pretty much has the game baked into it then all you'd have to do is make monsters of the appropriate CR. Gonna take some work regardless.

I mean I guess there's no reason we couldn't just make some characters and occasionally run a short module or some simple stuff while people are still working out the system.

AlbinoClock

Okay, I added a bunch of information to the first post that should help people figure out character creation anyway. Probably a good idea to familiarize yourself with the relevant rules on the SRD surrounding whatever it is you want to play.

I'm thinking we should just roll some characters up and then maybe we can rotate DMing small modules?

Also my TS is back up now and shouldn't be having any more downtime. So if people want to use that for this or whatever else feel free to drop by. Make sure you're not putting 7040 in there anymore.

AlbinoClock

Also it looks like Roll20 doesn't really handle rules so much, so whoever DMs will need to know enough to manage.

When you create a game in Roll20, you can choose from a wide array of character sheet templates depending on what game you're playing, a lot of them help calculate stats for you, like the Dungeon World one which automatically sets your modifiers based on your attributes. There's a Pathfinder one too obviously, in fact there's a few different ones to pick from, including sheets in other languages. That alone should make it just a bit easier. Hope that helps.

And also yeah, the idea of playing short contained adventures sounds pretty fun! I'm all for that idea. You'd just have to make a new game on Roll20 for us to get started and you can always add a new DM afterwards.

Feel free to make a character. Doing 4d6, drop the lowest, reroll 1s. Let's say core races for now. As far as classes, anything but unchained or 3pp classes. So core, base, alternate, hybrid, and occult are all fine. Prestige classes can't really be made at level  1, because they have level requirements and occasionally require you to have done certain specific things within the game.

Everything else for character creation you should be able to find on the SRD, along with a short guide I put in the first post here today.

I'm making a Wizard. :D

Reminder, the DM has to actually "hand" the player a character sheet. I joined the game lobby as a player at the very least, so you'll see me in the listing.

I gave you a sheet.

AlbinoClock

Also made blank sheets for BB10, Sinister, and Poly.

Sheep

Well, I made my character to the best of my understanding, using the SRD's character creation guide. Feel free to take a look at it though, Albino, and tell me if I did anything wrong that needs fixing.

Your stats are pretty bad. How'd you end up with a 4? Did you roll 4d6, take the 3 highest, and reroll 1s? Two blocks? Did you remember to add racial modifiers?

I'd also reconsider your feat choice. Check out a gunslinger guide. The first thing you want to do with your feats is make your gun better. I'd grab Point-Blank shot first, as it's a requirement for other stuff, and then Precise Shot so you don't get a -4 penalty while shooting at things that are in melee.

Generally you want your feats to be things that always matter to your class's strategy. A bonus against large creatures is very situational. You'll fight a lot more small and medium creatures than large creatures, and they'll often have higher ACs.

As far as skills go, you can only take as many ranks in a skill as you have levels, so 1 is the max for any skill right now. Also it might be worth swapping that point in Dungeoneering to Engineering or Acrobatics or something.

i will play as a paladin.

expect me soon, sir

Oh, really sorry about that. The guide on the SRD didn't actually say anything about rerolling ones. I must've misread, sorry. As for the racial modifiers I put them under "Misc" as I didn't know where to officially put them. I was having a bit of trouble doing this on my own with no real experience. I can fix that stuff now that that's been cleared up. Real sorry about that, I'll also take your advise regarding feats too.

Also, are the racial feats/skill traits something I get now or do I just have the exclusive option to get them later? I did give myself a +4 Stealth under "Race" on my skill sheet but I don't know where to put the other stuff regarding my size.

EDIT: I did what you said and fixed the stuff already, tell me if I need to do anything else.

AlbinoClock

I still want to play in another game and not run another game.
