and when The Man blocks that hashtag I'll start posting with #blacklifesmatter

So my girlfriend is a complete idiot.

I texted her that a disturbance broke out two miles from her job. These aren't peaceful protesters. They have crowbars.

She's ignoring my directions to get the fuck out of the area. "I just got to finish one more thing.." kinda shit. Dudes, she works in a fucking bakery.

Cops finally showed up. Told them to get the hell out. That the riot was headed their way.

She still took almost half an hour to leave.

That being said, I get the night off because we had to shut down my store. So... yay?

PhantomCatClock

I was gonna offer to lend you some rooftop Koreans but it's starting to sound like we need ours

I think the clock crew's number 1 priority going forward should be to get star wars to tweet black lives matter

I can't even figure out my opinion on any of this. Fun how manic depression can make you numb.

I almost feel guilty for not being more emotionally invested in what's going on. Why am I not angrier?

I suddenly care a little today because the riot is literally down the street and I don't want this shit at my door.

Also, bring me some jerky, Jeff.

JambaClock

take your pick, we got em in all flavors

and, yes i do relate to your numbness, though my reason for this is because i live in the suburbs

PhantomCatClock

Maybe water your lawn if the grass/plants look a little dry

Nothing at all is happening in my town but some time this week I get to be the security guard that controls the queue outside the store and I really hope things calm down before even that.

I don't want to ignore anything, but I think I need to take a break from social media. Every video I click is not "yep, that's a reasonable response to a protest" or even "yep, that's a reasonable response to an outright riot." It's just all bullshit all the time, and it really feels like the police want people to fight back against the genuinely unlawful parts because then we get to see what trumpa lumpa will do with martial law

That LA riots guy in tears because he fought his way out of the ghetto and now his family gets to be homeless because people protesting white bullshit burned down his store, that hurts to watch and it's just happening over and over right now. I don't even know what some of the riots are protesting at this point, but I know attacking their own communities is not part of their agenda. It's confusing and scary and I wish I had a clear, safe instruction on what I could do differently in my own life

PhantomCatClock

none of this would've happened if i didn't call op a double nigger on 4chan in 2006 and i have to live with this burden for the rest of my life

PhantomCatClock

it's my fault newgrounds had to remove all copyrighted music because i wouldn't stop voting five on spam

JambaClock

(obligatory "it's not your fault" post goes here)

but yeah, it really ain't

I guess the only thing I know how to do is archive

Yeah yeah emotional and easy to write him off because he looks young and starts hard, but wake me when that's removed. Wraps up a sort of zeitgeist that's been haunting the last month or so, deserves to be preserved

yeah i mean laffo but a little more background

not that any of this means chris palmer is the guy to be listening to

i'm not in favor of censorship, but I really don't feel good about how social media affects people's responses to this shit

over the past few days, you saw people sharing someone's post with suggestions about who to donate to, ok, cool. but also, I've seen at least a dozen people share variations on the same information. minnesota freedom fund has had so many donations that they're directing people to donate to other organizations. it's good that they now have as much money as they think they need, but the "sorcerer's apprentice" aspect to all of this is kind of concerning. I think the immediacy of social media has made some people think that "fires and looting" is where their particular city needs to be at, or they're not reacting enough.

I also feel like for politically active people, at this point, showing up in person to this clusterfuck is much more likely to get someone ELSE injured by cops in riot mode than it is to change any of the stuff that ought to be changed. I realize people are restless because of covid, too, but as much as this feels like a bootlicker thing to say, I wish more people would stay home and find a more concrete way of holding cops accountable/nerfing the police/keeping asshats out of blue suits/taking control of their own immediate neighborhood.

also it gives me the creeps when I see people listening to some of the lefties with authoritarian personalities that are coming out of the woodwork, those people aren't good news either
<Marlin Clock> This thread seems proof positive that divisiveness at any level is usually bad for the Clock Crew.
<PhantomCatClock> are we talking about the same clock crew

PhantomCatClock

after reading your post i agree and say instead of nerfing police we should sell the usa to greenland

Slurpee

the thing I keep coming back to is just what the fuck did the people in charge think was going to happen?

did they not see the escalation, did they not see the acceleration?
how did ANYBODY not see this coming?

the director of road trip saw this coming

it's a tired joke at this point

trevor moore wrote It's Time For Guillotines in 2013

[u2]TMHCw3RqulY[/u2]

things have not gotten better since then

there was a viral tumblr post that referred to the current era as the part in history books titled "factors leading to"
twitter called it "the cool zone"

michael moore called it at the end of his last movie, just like he called trump getting elected. he said I don't know what's going to happen. I don't know how much more people can take. it can't keep on like this. something is going to give

the militarization of the police? we've known about this. nothing changed
cops murder innocent people, riots in the streets, nothing changed
monthly mass shootings, nothing changed
jeffrey epstein was murdered by ruling class pedophiles in front of the entire world and nothing changed
the last four years have seen the largest protests in the history of the world. are we any better for it?
global warming? it's already too late, and we're just going to let it keep getting worse. people are going to die, and there is nothing you can do about it, the decision has been made for us
the last president oversaw the extrajudicial execution of american citizens overseas
tax cuts for the rich, billion dollar subsidies, and there are hoovertowns in american streets. the overpass between my friend's old apartment and the grocery store is a tent city of people displaced from their homes
both of the presidential candidates are senile racist rapists, and the current one is stuffing the courts with rapists
mcconnell is openly sabotaging the legislative process, and a president who campaigned on "draining the swamp" is only making it worse
widespread gerrymandering, myths of voter fraud, and active voter suppression spearheaded by an increasingly authoritarian right, and all the democrats did was line up to stomp out the only candidate who actually gave a fuck about us

40 million americans lost their jobs while 106 thousand and counting lost their lives, and all that got done was a handful of billionaires helped themselves to 430 billion dollars, senators pocketing money, vital health services being given to private companies at the people's expense to be auctioned off for profit, and we're supposed to be mad at a government on the other side of the world for the fact that the people in charge here didn't protect us
puerto rico was left without power for 11 months
entire cities left without clean drinking water- they STILL haven't replaced the lead lines in flint
the opioid crisis, neonazis marching on american cities, violent suppression of protestors at the dakota access pipeline, rapists in hollywood, california just annually catching on fire

I'm not saying it's right, but what the fuck did they think was going to happen?
people are fucking angry
the idea that the system could be changed was put to the test and the people in charge spat in our faces so they could keep lining their pockets
you lost your home, you lost your job, and they can fucking kill you in the street for using a bad twenty
a man who has killed before can kneel on your fucking neck on camera for minutes after you stop moving in front of a crowd of witnesses, and he gets to go home, and the coroner will say it's POSSIBLE that you had intoxicants in your system
how much more did they think people were going to put up with?
when is the last time anybody in power could be bothered to act like a public servant, like they were grateful for what they had, like they gave a damn about people?

china, oppressive communist china, didn't even deploy the military on the hong kong protestors after a YEAR. we didn't even wait 3 days.

this isn't about what set it off, this is otto von bismark's "damn foolish thing in the balkans"
there's pain behind this. mass, human pain. when it gets to the point that watching the city you call home burn is an acceptable sacrificd if it means there's a chance you won't have to go on living with it, something has to give

I worry that people absolutely have learned from history and absolutely knew enough about what was going to happen to have a stake and investment in it. I just worry that it is the people in charge and we are being too predictable.

It's just a worry.
