I live in New York. The cost for me to have gone to UMD would have been $18000 all inclusive per year whereas it'd have been $13000/year to move onto campus at SUNYSB. Originally I'd have sprung for moving out, but only if it'd cost the same as staying local.

It doesn't matter because after I accepted their offer, it turns out that I was actually in for free if I chose to commute and would only have to supply money for food and gas.

I live in New York. Have so for the past 11 years. I commute to a University that is 11 miles from my house, which I go to for free because the scholarship they gave me covered the base in-state tuition and I chose not to dorm. Had I gone to Maryland, they scholarship they offered me covered all but $18,000 of annual expenses.
