Quote from: Munglai;1605645Pretty much all the games that have ever done really well have had an interesting story or interesting characters or dealt with story telling in some kind of interesting way. People just respond better to that kind of stuff and if they figured that out then maybe they'd get more people buying games who aren't fifteen.
What about Psychonauts? It had a great story but it had lackluster sales. Wii Sports, play, and fit are still the top selling games on the wii, Halo 3 is still the top seller on the 360, and two racing games are on the top of the PS3.

Even back a generation, the top sellers are Melee, Halo 2, with San Andreas really being the only top with a semblance of story.

Obviously you're wrong.

Ok I phrased that badly, I'm not talking about sales I'm talking about how well they've been loved and remembered. Good games go down in history just like good books and good films whether or not they sell well. The vast majority of the most respected games are at least driven by a strong story, even if it's not necessarily an extremely imaginative or ground breaking one. I'm not saying that games need stories on the level of great literature here, but the majority of games these days can't even stand up to the story standards of Die Hard.

I's obvious that the reason companies keep pumping out these standard games is because they're easy to sell but what I'm saying is an awful lot more of them ought to be making something more than that.

I don't know why anyone would even want to argue against this point.

Quote from: Atrus;1605571I'unno, I think my beef with Prototype's gameplay is that I'm not really working against anything. At least in inFamous, you've got shit to contend with, which makes playing the game more tense and satisfying. In Prototype, you blow up whatever the fuck you want without a whole lot to stop you.
Hmmm you can't have played through the whole game, I'm awesome when it comes to games and playing it on normal I can tell you is not easy matter at times; Mind you if I really want to camp/win it perfectly I can but playing it like a man with guns blazing is no easy task. It feels like a godawesome actionmovie where I am god BUT I CAN be felled by the critter.
