Quote from: Sir Bakley;1302631ok also this is news to me because i only play no-item 1v1 matches with my roommate because we're both very good and we're purists, but i had my friend irena over this morning and me her and two of my roommates were playing 4-way coin matches with all items on medium and it's fun as FUCK
Only boring twats don't use items.

Also people who play Smash seriously, and I know a lot of them.

Pin Clock

Sobe and Lambda play seriously. I used to play seriously, but now I don't care if there are or aren't items.
if there were two guys on the moon and one of them killed the other with a rock that'd be pretty fucked up wouldn't it?

patriotclock

Its fun with or without items but items spice things up.

Those smash ball things are pretty shit though

Kombucha

I like playing with items but not all items because some piss me off. I especially hate the hammers.

pikachu's volt tackle is so hard to control and it's kind of counter-intuitive in coin matches but once you get the hang of it it's pretty awesome

Exactly. In fact, so many of us at the last non-statewide tournament wanted the "no items" tournament rule gone, that they got rid of it.

No items =/= more skill in the slightest. In fact, I'd say it means the person has less skill, because he/she is unable to deal with, use, and fight against one of the main aspects of the entire game.

Pin Clock

Excatly, they say Items make things lamer or duller, but I say it adds a whole new level of depth into the game.

yeah i actually like items on in 1v1 matches to be honest, but my roommate isn't a fan so i don't have a problem with turning them off

just about every time we play with items 1v1, i win.  i think it's because i've been playing as link for 7 or so years and i've gotten to be so amazingly good with his projectile game (i literally set up primary and secondary boomerang and bomb paths to get a distruption or flinch or block a part of the stage; this is especially fun with link's new gale boomerang because if i time things right, i get drift him right into a fsmash or actually off the stage) that i'm also really good with using items, especially when i throw them.  i also seem to be a lot better at playing on stages with background elements (norfair, port town, mario circuit, etc.) because i can either use the stage to my advantage or i can deal with not hitting cars almost subconsciously.

TapedeckClock

I disklike playing with items on and its not because im "not skilled" with them. its just they get in the way of me and my opponent.
Example:say im running up to him with pikahu to hit some major damage and all of a sudden a crate falls out of nowhere getting in the way of me and who im facing at that time.

its not that i dont like them (ill play with em some times) but the just get annoying after a while.
WWWWWWWWWW

MasterClock

Playing with items and playing without items are two completely different levels of skill.  People have preferences.  End of story.

TequilaClock

If I remove items to "make it more fun", it would only be smash balls and hammers.

Wow, the SSBB topic all the way back on the 4th page.

Well, let me wrap up my commentary on Brawl.

I wanted a long time for it, I was very pumped to play it. I played it for months without even touching Melee, and I decided to play Melee last night, for the hell of it, and it made me disappointed at how Brawl turned out. Melee is very exceptional compared to Brawl, and that kinda sucks.

Pin Clock

Heavy Gravity kinda helps give Brawl more of a melee feel. Not sure about Heavy Lightning Brawl, since I never tried it, but then it might be too fast.

SSB 64 --> Freaking Hilarious
SSBM --> Great for challenging, kinda like when Street Fighter was on arcades.
SSBB --> Massive compilation of the Nintendo universe and more dynamic stages
