Biblo

Does anyone know a good reliable way of creating high quality gifs without getting bollocks colours etc?

TremcladClock

Set the colour range like so:

Well, if you're not seeing any difference whatsoever using this configuration, you're doing something wrong.

Keep in mind that you must use the Publish function in order for the configuration to take effect. The File -> Export method will override the custom configuration.

yes, that is the problem, since a gif can only have a maximum of 256 diffrent colors per frame. the adaptive palette setting, with a 99999 in the input box, doesn't change that.

Well SHIT.

Left: Adaptive 99999
Right: Default 255 colour array

first of all, 256 different colors are a lot for a computer generated image (like the one you got there) but not enough for a realistic photo

in the default mode, flash only uses the default 256 color palette (which contains colors like yellow or pink, that you wouldnt need for your picture there... but only few shades of red or brown, while you would need more and other ones for your image)

in the adaptive mode flash scans your image and adds every color it finds to the palette... this way, you get all the shades of red that you need for your picture and still stay in the 256 limit

in a real photo though, there are usually more than just 256 different colors

Yeah, and it looks better as opposed to sucking. QED.

By all means, export your gifs using a default 256 colour palette, granddad.

Also: why are you trying to reinvent the wheel here? I know what a bloody adaptive palette is and entering "999999" is just going to snap down to the highest number of available colours.

i never said anything else...
my point was, that its almost impossible to get a good looking gif out of a realaistic photo

Ok so about what are we discussing then? :D
I just answered to his post, where he told us, he is using a photo, that this just won't work well, no matter what export settings he uses.
And not, that using the adaptive setting, would be senseless...

Well, offering some form of advice, that being the only method I know of increasing GIF quality, is a preferable choice in comparison to accepting the grim truth that your photo GIFs will always look like rubbish. :(

sure, but the gif optimizing advice was already provided by your post at the threads beginning ;D
