China an Heineken have no idea what they are talking about. Slurpee knows it.
They are just thinking as primitive mathematicians and can't handle something like infinity.
1/3 = .333... is TRUE
1/3*3 = 1 is TRUE
.333...*3 = .999... is TRUE
LOGICALLY: .999... = 1

I'm not disputing the example of the lacking mathematical reality, I'm just saying it's bullshit. Slurpee even said it himself: "Numbers can't represent infinity" as they are of radically opposing concepts. When trying to apply them to eachother you get a failure like this.

Also, what the fuck kind of authority do you have in saying "can't handle something like infinity"? I never said anything regarding infinity itself, just that trying to represent it with anything except ∞ is absurd and pointless. It's not the LOGICAL result.

Give me one reasonable application of this hypothesis that is anything besides stating the repeated wordgames, please.

Also doing a logic test on a ti-83 results in a 1 for true and an 0 for false.

Again, this is silly because you are testing if the finite number .999 is equal to 1, which it does not. To test this with a calculator, you would have to keep pressing 9 until room runs out, and that point it will likely round up to 1.

You can't prove anything like that.

So guys, I also heard this story where there are two guys on a boat, right? Pete and Repete?

okay, look

if you do do it

if you do, apropos of the fact that some fractions can't be represented rationally as decimals, apply the concept of infinity to how long the repeating numbers repeat themselves, because, mathematically speaking, they would go on forever, it's the same difference

look again:
x = (.999...)
x * 10 = (.999...) * 10
10x = (9.999...)
10x - (.999...) = (9.999...) - (.999...)
9x = 9
x = 1

the only reason you can multiply .9 repeating and get 9.9 repeating is because there is an infinite number of nines, and infinity minus one is still infinity

the concept of infinity matters
you can do the same thing with .3 repeating
x = (.333...)
x * 10 = (.333...) * 10
10x = (3.333...)
10x - (.333...) = (3.333...) - (.333...)
9x = 3
x = 3/9
x = 1/3

and do something that they teach in the fourth grade with the exact same principle

it's a fairly simple elaboration on a fairly simple concept and you're acting like it's some abstract gibberish.

the only reason I "keep repeating 'but it's infinite lololo' to myself" is because it IS infinite and it DOES matter and you're pretending it doesn't because you're a douchebag jackass.
.9 repeating isn't less than one, it is one.

yes, you might as well just say "1" and that's the whole fucking point
they're equal
you can freely exchange between them just like you can 1/3 and .3 repeating

This is due to what you're actually saying is ∞ = ∞ and trying to apply it to other numbers.

The ones stating this is attempting to prove that the number 1 is the same thing as something else. Except that numbers don't apply. That is the "whole fucking point" of using ∞ from the start.

0.00912131∞ would also be the same infinite, because it never starts and/or never ends.
21.3114992∞ would also be the same infinite, because it never starts and/or never ends.

The reason you and the "0.999..." proponents keep repeating those calculations is because it makes it seem plausible to twist something like that.

We all know that the whole idea behind 1/3+1/3+1/3=1 is to get an appropriate way to describe it, so that we won't use the faulty decimal system for it.

Slurpee

so
your problem with it is that the numbers repeat forever

so (if I may read between the lines) you have no problem with the idea that .9 repeating is just as applicable as .3 repeating.

in other words you also feel that .3 repeating is completely superfluous and not equal to one third
and if that's the case

blow it out your ass

By your way of thinking, that you can apply something like infinity to regular numbers, then 0.333.. = 0.999.. aswell. So no, it wouldn't equal to one third. It'd equal 1. See how much bullshit this concept is? If it was actually 1/3 of the nummerical concept of a 1, then it would be a finite number. But this is not applicable with decimals, thus we don't use them in these matters.

It's absolutely ignorant to try to compare numbers to infinity, since they do not apply.

My "problem" with it isn't that they're saying they're the same thing, it's that they are saying they "prove" that "these different numbers are the same lololo", when they're actually talking about the same non-number in a twisted wordgame that does not apply to actual numbers.

They mean to say ∞ = ∞, but when presuming infinity then any number would apply.

China, we've already presented the proof mathematically, and BEING infinite is not the same as an infinite SEQUENCE.
.9 with 9's to the infinite place value is not the same kind of infinity as an infinite number.
You realize that every number has infinite 0's at its end?
25 = 25.000... (0's going to the infinite place value)

Lol, except that 0 is the concept of nothing. So no, it doesn't end with an infinite value. Just like 25.2 or 25.61 doesn't.

Also, what is the difference between infinite mass in a sequence and the "state of being infinite"? Do explain yourself.

RomanClock

You obviously have no concept of infinity and I don't want to waste my time explaining it to you because I am me, you won't listen me (or Slurpee), so you'd have to go ask someone that you will listen to to tell you.
