Above: Papiroflexia. One of the short films submitted to Cannes this year.

I love short films... It's an art of its own - more concentrated than a feature film. It's like a shot of Schnapps to the fine wine approach of feature films. They're quick, powerful, and to the point! If done right.

The Cannes Film Festival has got 9 of the best short films that were sent in to them (two of which are animations) this year online, and you can watch them all on youtube, via this playlist.

You can then vote on them to determine which film wins the viewer's prize, based on the youtube score.

Quote from: youtubeThe NFB, in association with the Cannes Short Film Corner and partner YouTube, welcomes you to the fourth annual Short Film Online Competition - Cannes 2008. Watch 9 of the best films premiering at this year's Cannes Short Film Corner and vote for your favorites by rating them with 5 stars. The film with the best ratings will win a special award at this year's Cannes Film Festival!

My favourites are the dutch film, Balbezit, the american animation, Papiroflexia (you may have already seen this one), and the romanian film Lecita de Box (The Boxing lesson).

Which ones do you like or dislike, and why?

I voted 5 for the boxing lesson. I really like those kind of European movies. It kinda reminded me of Billy Elliot too lol.

I love short films. I'm leading a project in my multimedia class to make a 30 minute surreal film for some adobe contest, and if we win, it will be shown at sundance.
