Why does everyone argue in every thread of this site?

PropagandaClock

I do not get why everyone is so stressed...

Am I the only one currently not bothered what with is happening and is still making flash despite whatever happens on the website?
Correct me if I am wrong; The Crews worth is measured in produced flash and not how much we love eachother on different web forums, even if this is a major plus when functional.

It's because we are running out of time to end our animations

No, you're not the only one, and you've got a very healthy attitude, by the way. You know the hundreds of people that aren't speaking up and aren't participating in these discussions? Well they all likely feel the way you do, or similarly. Or just don't care.

You'll notice the same three people are posting all these threads, and the same handful of people keep repeating and agreeing with them (with very few exceptions). What they're doing is subverting everyone through our cognitive biases, especially one in particular, the "availability cascade" (at least that what it's called according to Wikipedia). You may have heard the saying "Repeat something enough times and it becomes the truth." It's a common propaganda tactic, and they're all using it here (to very good effect). But it doesn't mean what they're saying is actually true, it's just our brains focus on what gets repeated a lot. I'm just as guilty of falling prey to this fallacy, although I am aware of it so I'm at least somewhat less affected than others.

Here's what this site has to say about the fallacy:

"Accepting Repetition as Evidence: Sometimes a person will simply repeat their opinion when asked to provide evidence to justify an assertion or belief they have expressed. They may repeat their position emphatically, engage in various dominance displays, highlight various power symbols, show impatience, or assert their positional power as they simply repeat their opinion. A variation of this fallacy is to claim “everyone knows . . . is true” as the evidence. But repetition is not evidence, and it should not be accepted as evidence. "

Nice straw man fallacy. What we're doing is addressing points that then get ignored by Leek and dismissed by yourself. Repetition, in this case, is not a propaganda tactic, but a foolish hope that maybe someone will actually read the fucking thing and have something to say about it. We are not presenting repetition as evidence, we are repeating ourselves because the two of you don't seem interested in replying to our points. Now normally I'd just give up, but in this particular case the individuals doing the ignoring are most unfortunately those who control the situation.

So in other words, when you guys are done making excuses and dismissing opinions, would you actually fucking address some of this stuff?

Why can't we all stop bitching about what's going to happen to the cc again in the future? How about living in the present for once and maybe trying to have fun while we're at it. I come to these forums and this site because I still find good threads to read here, I still learn a thing or two at times from you guys at time, and I like to watch the newest humor filed clock film every now and then or see what the new fad at the good old cc is. I come here because regardless of whether it's as fun or as cool as it used to be, it still is fun. I don't know about anyone else here, but I enjoy my time here. If some of you weren't so busy posting threads like these maybe you would too.

Well primarily what you say over and over again is "the admins don't do anything, we need more admins", even while we're doing our jobs and getting things taken care of fairly quickly (instead of unimportant things like a BBS skin, or "adding features", which in another post you'll claim we have too much crap and are too cluttered). And then if we don't respond in five minutes or don't argue each sentence of your extremely repetitive posts and mostly vapid posts, you'll go "SEE!!!?!! FURTHER PROOF WE NEED MORE ADMINS!" and post yet another thread saying pretty much the same damn thing, but from a slightly different angle.

It's not a straw man (because I'm not simplifying or misrepresenting your position here with the repetition assertion, this is outside of your argument. this is your technique, not your content. and i addressed the content in the first paragraph). It IS what you guys are doing (even if subconsciously), and there's enough proof on this BBS there's pretty much no way you can refute this, man.

Okay, you're not doing it in a calculated way; you're not going "okay, if we repeat this X number of times, then we win!" but, just like... Rush Limbaugh, for example, it's part of your overall, unplanned strategy because you see it gets results from other people. You've already got at least some people, like in this very thread, going "oh, it'll take the admins six months to remove his medals", when obviously there's no reason it takes that long.

Now that's not to say that there's absolutely no way we could benefit from more admins. Admins are more likely to help than hinder. But there's not an OVERWHELMING need for new admins right away, and no one has really made themselves out like they really want the job, except you, just you, who is resorting to constant harrasment and are showing pretty obvious favoritism with the guys that agree with you so much I'm really don't think it would be a good idea to put YOU in charge anymore. Sure, you may be passionate, and usually level-headed, but you've been going about this in a way that's counterproductive (and this is coming from a guy who was mostly in support of you becoming an admin last week. you were doing a pretty good job of persuading me until recently.)

The ClockCrew is what you make of it.

I enjoy my time here too, I'd just like to see things run a bit more smoothly. Yeah, the CC is changing, but we have internetcult to preserve the kind of CC we'd like to see. There isn't any good reason not to give some active users the ability to make this site actually progress.

That aside, if you don't like these kinds of discussions why do you read these threads and post in them?

You're not talking about JUST a change, but an entirely different ClockCrew. The current status is do whatever you want. Who is stopping you from being an old school flaming funny guy? No one.

And people can't avoid these threads when they're the only ones getting attention and posts.

Quote from: CadillacClock;1358675Your logic is flawed. Go read what Clam and I wrote. I'm not explaining it, again. I will simply say that you cannot represent something that does not adhere to your own ideals. It is hypocritical. Why would I dismiss one perverted little furry/anime-aficionado and love the other? Such ideals are doomed to conflict.

You're doomed to think your opinion and belief is superior then all others. I'm not saying we couldn't use another Admin, but you're taking it all the wrong way. Present the problem, present a solution. Not present the problem, and present the problem, and present the problem, and

Well, thanks for the clarification guys. All of these essays on the current state of the Clock Crew reminds me of that essay I wrote back in 03 on the apathy of the Clock Crew. I'm fully in support of Leek being a dictator, if that's true or not. He was there then, and he was one of the few people that cared about what seemed like the apparent dismantling of the Clock Crew.

Since we're in the trend of pointing at history repeating itself, I'll just state the obvious that most people seem to be missing. The Clock Crew has fallen apart, splintered into multiple cells, and converged back together again multiple times. It seems we're splintering now, and given enough time, we'll be united again, for lack of a better term.

So, my final question: How many websites do we have now, and can someone link them so that I can slip between them like the two-faced communist that I am?

P.S. I'll be animating again :3 ClockDay gets fagified once more for the first time in years.

Edit: Also, Leek, make me an admin again. I want some petty power.

For the moment, just two, and the other one is at internetcult.org. You should check it out sometime. I'm told it's quite nice, and I plan on booking a reservation there myself when I get the vacation time approved.
