It feels good to say what I want. It feels good to knock things down. It feels good to see the disgust in their eyes. It feels good and I\'m gonna go wild. SPRAY! PAINT! THE! WALLS!

Blue

I have no idea what Watchmen really is... But the trailer was so masterfully made that I want to have it's babies.

Nice, I just learned about this comic about a week ago. nice timing.

Randy Pearson

Both of you ignorant peons read the graphic novel. And I mean right now. Dash from your homes and rush to the nearest bookstore and buy a copy, or reserve a copy, or if you're short on cash steal a copy.

sorry, are you all I'm a edgy teen or something!?

that trailer is fucking lame. firstly, it's FAR too clean. secondly, the smashing pumpkins song is ridiculously out of place, the film is set in the fucking 80s and you play a modern song in the trailer??? the comedian just looks like an idiot and the entire trailer is completely cliche american blockbuster action crap.

also, it describes Zack Snyder as a "visionary director"
tell me, exactly where in his remake and 2 comic book adaptations has he had a vision?

It's only a teaser, you tool. And they've been advertising it next to PG-13 movies like The Dark Knight. They wouldn't put most of the edgy content in because they want to advertise it to the widest possible audience. They are not just there to satisfy your needs. The film is already  slated to get an R-rating so what the fuck do you want? Why don't you go see it instead of basing your judgments on 3-minutes of a possible two hour movie.

Quotesecondly, the smashing pumpkins song is ridiculously out of place, the film is set in the fucking 80s and you play a modern song in the trailer???

And what hardcore eighties tune would you have picked for the trailer that was surreal and fit. "Walking on Sunshine?" "Simply Irresistible?" "Power of Love?" When you market something to a modern audience you use modern music. In addition, even though it is set in the eighties, the story is still being told from a MODERN DAY perspective. Just because it's in the trailer doesn't mean it will be in the movie.

Quotethe comedian just looks like an idiot and the entire trailer is completely cliche american blockbuster action crap.

So you admit that you have never read the original Watchmen. If you had, you would have seen that they are literally ripping scenes right out of the comic book panels. And it looks awesome.

Quotealso, it describes Zack Snyder as a "visionary director"

Okay. Why don't you sue them for false advertising if you object so much? They're trying to draw a crowd dingus. There's no tactic used in this trailer that isn't used in countless other trailers. It was a decision of the marketing team, not the director. It's not like you're going to walk into the movie and see in the open credits "Directed by Zack 'Visionary' Snyder."

Ok, I saw this as a non-Watchmen reading movie-goer, so please don't hate me too much for my opinions.

I've heard a LOT of good hype about this movie. As I said, I haven't read the comic, and I was going to avoid doing so so that I could go into the movie with no expectations. After seeing the trailer, I think I may have to read the book before seeing the movie. If I knew nothing of comics, or that this movie was even based off of a comic, I'd probably think this was just some generic hero movie that was riding the coattails of other successful super hero movies (even if they paid attention to the blurb that mentioned it was based off the hit graphic novel). They threw a lot of different characters at me, so I didn't really know if I should be excited that one of them threw someone through a wall or not.

I have to admit, though, with the SP song and visuals, it was pretty hypnotizing.

Bitch about the trailer all you want, but Solid Snake helped write the screenplay. Also I thought the trailer was hella bangs to the wall awesome.

Quote from: Losperman;1368054I think I may have to read the book before seeing the movie.
Not the worst idea in the world. As much as I'm stoked over the trailer, there's at best a .5% chance that the graphic novel won't remain the best, most ultimately fulfilling telling of the story, and the version that you don't want tainted by anything else.
(Especially if they mess up the ending, because the ending is seriously fucking legendary; it's a very anti-hollywood ending, and none of the screenplays, even David Hayter's, have gotten it right. I really hope they fixed it in the shooting script, because it really wouldn't be THAT hard to do- the things they always fuck up are very simple.)

It's probably the best graphic novel I've ever read, and it only gets better with every subsequent reading. And, I mean, not only that, but the entire book is filled with things that you can't do in movies. Just flat out can't, because the medium doesn't work that way.

So yeah.
If you have any inclination to read the book first, please, do so.

When I say clean I mean shiny, not non-violent. It's far too clean. It completely lacks all the grittiness of the source material.
Obviously I'm going to judge the film on its own, but this thread is about the trailer, try to realise that that's what I was talking about.

I do not see advertising to the widest possible audience as a plus. I see that as a watering down in order to appeal to every ass scratching moron watching.

Quote from: Predator;1368025And what hardcore eighties tune would you have picked for the trailer that was surreal and fit. "Walking on Sunshine?" "Simply Irresistible?" "Power of Love?" Using the Smashing Pumpkins song gives the trailer a 90s/00s feel, it's not meant to have that. The argument that you should use modern music to market to a modern audience is idiotic. Should they have used modern music to market Amadeus?? But everyone who was around when the original music was written is dead!! WHAT'S TO BE DONE!?

Quote from: Predator;1368025So you admit that you have never read the original Watchmen. If you had, you would have seen that they are literally ripping scenes right out of the comic book panels. And it looks awesome.

No, I don't admit that because I have read it, and it's excellent and one of my favourites. That's why I want to see it done correctly. The presentation is cliche American blockbuster crap. The slow pulses, the epic music. These are in 90% of action trailers these days. And the Comedian still looks I'm a edgy teen. He doesn't look like someone who's hard and tough, rather he looks like some idiot thinking that smiling makes him look "dark."

And if they're ripping scenes right out of the panels (which is a good thing) that only solidifies the next point.

Quote from: Predator;1368025Okay. Why don't you sue them for false advertising if you object so much? They're trying to draw a crowd dingus. My point is that it's such an ego-stroking bullshit thing to say when the source material is the true genius on offer. Also, the fact that there's no tactic here that isn't used in countless other trailers only proves my earlier point that it's a cliched American blockbuster action bullshit. Also there aren't threads for all those trailers with everyone praising how amazing they think it is.

In conclusion: if you can't handle someone disliking the links your posting to, don't post them. This is a discussion thread, not a "post how good you think it is" thread.

Also one plus is I like Rorschach's voice.

Biblo, I really have no idea what you could have been expecting that this let you down.
And, y'know, more power to you.

But the first thing you did was rhetorically ask everybody in the thread if we're I'm a edgy teen.
So there isn't really room to say you were merely disagreeing. By that measure, all Predator was doing was disagreeing with you back, so what are you complaining about?

Well he accused me of never having read the comic and used the argument that broad appeal is a good thing twice so of course I'm going to get pissed.

But yes, you're right about the I'm a edgy teen thing, that was a tad short-sighted.

Also he got personal and patronising because I didn't drool over something he did.
