What the fuck dude. Why are we researching things like this.

What a horribly written news article

When people say "clinical death" that means that nobody really dies but they want it to sound spooky and scare ignorant people
Clinical death is only "cessation of blood circulation and breathing".
People come back from that all the time. You probably personally know people right now who would be "zombies" by that articles definition.

The only thing I hate more than sensationalist news is people who fall for it. And gypsies.

To be fair, you don't have anything. Clocks are just machines that tick.

They used the term "clinically dead" meaning what you just said. HOWEVER, I would say they are not dead DEAD because this is a forced process that done incorrectly would result in ACTUAL death. It would be akin to turning your computer off, but then you can turn it right back on without anything changing.
Like I said, its SUSPENDED animation, not REanimation.
lemayo lol :soups:

I'm going to expand on this by saying what they're doing is turning off the computer but actual death would be smashing it with a hammer until it shuts off for good

Al Sharpton ☻

Zombie Lincolns roaming the Earth. Actually, zombism is caused by a virus related to the rabies virus, it mutates the cells in the body to work needing only a small amount of energy. I'm suprised people are so skeptic when in the 1990's there were a string of zombie attacks on beaches shown on the news. The CDC has samples of the virus 'solunum' (Russian Spelling) which causes zombism. The United States government often puts a hold on publishing books about the subject.
Know to not be funny. Haha

It specifically says "The animals are considered scientifically dead, as they stop breathing and have no heartbeat or brain activity." For a short time, they also have no blood.

How the hell can you guys say they're never actually dead? Let me know next time you hear of a human having no blood, brain activity, or heartbeat snap back to life.

Yeah I heard about something like this in Russia a couple years ago, it isn't really that new but basically they have done this to humans in Russia too.

We are intervening way to much. People are living too long as it is, we are beginning to over populate. There are things that we should, and should not do. Sure this looks like a breakthrough, but when you stand back and look at it... where does it end?

Flux, c'mon, they REPLACED the blood with a substance that allowed the body to stay in a SUSPENDED condition. Its NOT ACTUALLY dead. If they didn't use this solution, IT WOULDN'T WORK BECAUSE IT WOULD KILL YOU DEAD FOR REAL.

You guys should look up the difference between SUSPENDED ANIMATION and REANIMATION.

Also, there are some animals that can do this naturally like bugs and frogs that freeze themselves. The are SCIENTIFICALLY AND CLINICALLY DEAD buy not ACTUALLY DEAD.

First off, don't yell at us because it's what the article said, not us. And second off they had already died before they were frozen.

No, they were "dead" for 3 hours WITH THE STUFF IN THEIR VEINS. Otherwise the procedure is USELESS. Its called THINKING.
QuotePittsburgh's Safar Centre for Resuscitation Research has developed a technique in which subject's veins are drained of blood and filled with an ice-cold salt solution.

The animals are considered scientifically dead, as they stop breathing and have no heartbeat or brain activity.

But three hours later, their blood is replaced and the zombie dogs are brought back to life with an electric shock.

PS: There no freaking over population. What exactly are you reading? And why can't people live longer if they want to? I certainly do.

Nonsense. Our current social infrastructures aren't designed to handle the numbers we're expanding to, but there's plenty of physical space. Especially if scientists start living longer and being able to contribute more.  Anyway, this isn't stopping the aging process, it's giving people a possibility of surviving serious injury.

QuoteThere are things that we should, and should not do.
Sure, but how does this fall into the later category?  I tend to see staying alive as a pretty good thing.

QuoteSure this looks like a breakthrough, but when you stand back and look at it... where does it end?
Where does it end isn't much of an argument, despite being one of the most common against this sort of thing. Even so, why would you want it to end? What's wrong with a better standard of living? For that matter, how is this too much when blood transfusions are a run of the mill occurance? Is the internet going too far or is the threshold somewhere past that? It's all part of our species' social/biological evolution, as natural as a fig wasp.

I think you're just afraid of living in a scifi novel. :)

As to whether or not these suspended animation dogs are dead, it's pretty much the same argument as the debate over Pluto's status as a planet last year. Until some group of scientists agrees to redefine life and death it won't matter which we choose to call it at any given time, the physical circumstance is the same.

God, I really hope you aren't this big of an asshole in person, or nobody will like you.

Also, yes, we are overpopulating. We haven't quite gotten there yet, but we are close.

And it was the article that claimed they were "Zombies." It was written misleadingly, and I recognize fault. Which tears down my little chat with UbuntuClock as well, so yay!
