It's just a really well told story with really lovely animation.

Now that you mention it, the songs were kind of meh, for a Disney classic at least. Alladin and the Little Mermaid beat out Lion King there.

What people don't realize about the final fight with Scar is you don't actually have to hit him however many hundreds of times it seems like you do. When you mash the buttons a certain time and a certain way, I can't remember which because I haven't played that game in like a decade, Simba will growl and throw him and it counts as like 40 hits.

If it isn't clear, I totally beat that game. On Genesis, at least.
(Simba's Exile is by far my least favorite level.)

I know. My brothers and I only figured it out when we let our dad try his hand at Scar he accidentally did it on a cliff and threw him over, beating the game. Very embarrassing moment for us.

having seen both the movie and the broadway.. i've finally figured out why the Lion King (movie version) made it so hard to connect to any of the characters other than Scar..
of course, in the 90's talking animals wasn't exactly new so there was already an 'art' to doing it effectively, an art that was loosely used in this movie, and not very well. the trick was to humanize the animals, but not so much that we forgot that they were STILL animals. With characters like Simba, he is so completely humanized that the magic of the African setting is lost... there were so many other characteristics i wish they could have done better, and not to mention the shoddy writting here and there....

so...munglai....if you wish to redo it, i would definately see why, but it wouldnt change what already came before you, regardless of any improvements, the lion king was still a decent movie that touched a lot of people. of course i'd love for you to prove me wrong.

I like the Lion King the way it is, and honestly wouldn't change a thing. And if they ever did, I would probably kill them with something blunt and heavy. As if Lion King 1 1/2 wasn't bad enough.

I Scar has always been the best Disney villain in my eyes, he's just got that coolness about him.

The Jungle Book had pretty much all the best animators ever working on it. It's far from my favourite but there's so many absolutely brilliant bits of animation I can't help but have my mind blown whenever I watch.

Fantasia just has centaurs and Mickey Mouse dancing around to classical music. The only bit I think matches up to Jungle Book standards is the big demon man and some of the crocodile and hippo stuff.

It was way more than decent! The Lion King is an amazing film it's just that it was done before design in animation stopped being about fashion and started being about actually thinking. The reason the bad guys in disney films are always so much more interesting to look at than the good guys is that the designers weren't forced to work with so many restrictions. It wasn't until around when they did Hercules that they started allowing for more creative work on the good guys.

I wasn't suggesting they got rid of or adjusted the old one, I'd just like to see someone else's take on the same story. I don't see why a remake has to have any effect on someone's enjoyment of the original.

Me and my friend were talking today about how it would be awesome to remake the Lion King but replacing Simba with Jesus, Mufassa with God, Scar with King Herod and so on, but keeping the rest of the story and the majority of the dialog the same. I might try to do something a bit like that with some animation pals in the future when we're rich and awesome.
