I've very very recently begun learning how to play guitar, and here's the first song i've learnt. It's pretty abismal I know and probably the easiest thing ever to play (haha, well, not for me) but it's a pretty big step for me and i'm damn proud!

Are there any players here who can give me some tips? I've just been learning basic chords/scales from different online resources, can't really afford tuition!

well I wouldn't call him a legend but I do very much like his music.

By the sound of the start, you are hitting some string that don't need to be hit. This is generally corrected by practice. try muting some of the string with the fingers of you left hand, as they are holding down the frets of the strings you want to hear

also, it almost sounds like you aren't holding the strings down fully, this will get better in time as you get used to your guitar and your hand gets used to playing those positions. try and hold the string down as close to the fret as you can without actually being on it.

Thanks for the feedback! Believe it or not, it's took me about 2 weeks practise to even learn that piece of crap! It's really helped with my chords transitions in general though.

Yeah I really struggle to get my fingers to do what I want them to so quickly... Also find it a bugger that once i've got them in the right place, to hold down JUST that one fret without touching anything else and causing strings to make that rattling noise! Hopefully like you say it'll get better if I keep practicing.

So for the intro, hold the notes down that are needed, and then with the same fingers try to mute the notes that aren't needed by tilting them back or whatever?

yeh, for example, if I want to play only the a string, I will hold down the fret i need on the a string, and with the tip of the same finger, touch the low E string, to mute that, and then have the rest of my finger rest of the remainig strings so as to mute them also, so i can strum the whole thing but only hear one note.
