Oh Jesus, what has Gen Fukunaga finagled this time?

But seriously, I've heard rumors about this since around 1999.  I suspect they're just doing what they did to Speed Racer: make a formerly decent (although heavily butchered) anime title into a live-action movie, only for the plot to be destroyed even more and all the focus shifted on the T&A, sex and violence scenes.
And to make things worse:
[RANT]Gen Fukunaga is the nephew of a high-ranking executive at Toei Animation, so he basically has carte blanche to get his hands on any anime he wants and do whatever he wants to do to it.  He's your stereotypical overgrown suburban kid with contacts too powerful for his own good.  I thought the 2005 buyout of FUNimation would put this kind of spoiled "business" behavior in check; apparently I was dead wrong.  And to think he's a hometown hero to the local otaku population...[/RANT]

BTW, I don't even remember "Mai" from the anime series at all.  She may just prove my above suspicions.

Hmmm, well, I didn't really watch the show much (my brother liked it, yet neither one of us was allowed to watch it, so I just picked up a few details in passing), so I never knew all the characters' names.

Piccolo needs to be more green in the movie );<

Yeah that's one of the things that bothers me most about this film.

I can't figure out how to use your digg stuff. But I have looked at the cast before, and Aside form like 2 of the actors I was unimpressed. I doubt I will like it, because for me what makes me love dragonball is the characters and humor. The movie will probably be all fighting like DBZ was. If they somehow can translate the humor and characters of dragonball into a live action film I will be very impressed.

Reminds me of the Super Mario Bros film.

I don't care what people say the super mario movie was great.

It was but it was also very far from the game.

ToiletRollClock

The Super Mario Bros. Movie was great but it also was very far removed from the game.

The Dragonball movies looks shit as well as being far removed from the comic.

Why was Goku fighting near some kind of fancy party? Why is Piccolo white? Why did I see a modern yellow car in there?

Actually in the world that dragonball takes place in, their stuff is futuristic. You know about the capsules and stuff right?

Ok so I just watched the preview. It actually looks really boring, aside form the fact that it seems like it will be almost completely unrelated to the original comic. It seems completely devoid of humor, which is what dragonball was completely based on. Bulma is a helpless schoolgirl, that is why she traveled with Goku. Mia was a minor character, and was mostly comic relief. Master Roshi is not a silly old man who just happens to me a martial arts master. They pretty much just took the characters names and the main conflict (finding the dragonballs) and wrote their own little movie.

Gets hard to tell sometimes since some places look pretty prehistoric.
