Wind-up Clock

33,439. I'm keeping right on tempo.

Here's an excerpt.

Quote=This cannot be true!= Viridus was overtaken by shock, rage creeping up right behind it.
{{The facts cannot be disputed.}} Eusou kept right on staring, his unblinking eyes looking at the mantis. {{The human is a danger, and we have been ordered to destroy it.}}
=Destroy it?= The mantis tilted his head. =Destroy it!= He gestured towards the Mustang, still shining blue under the lights. =Destroy our only link to this?=
{{That is also to be destroyed as well.}} Eusou was firm in his statement. If Viridus could blink, he would have done so. Then he began to tremble.
=These creatures have performed beyond anything that we have previously encountered!= Viridus began flailing wildly, =The geneseed does not bond to a machine! It was never supposed to! They possess capabilities far beyond anything that had been seen before by our race!=
{{That is why they must be destroyed.}}
=That is why they must be preserved! Think of what can be accomplished!=
{{Think of what will be lost.}} Eusou did not budge one bit.
=If we can learn from them, become allies with them, then perhaps we will not have to suffer that loss!=
{{That chance cannot be taken.}} Eusou bowed his head. {{The machine and the pilot are to be disposed of by this time tomorrow.}} The bee turned around and floated out, the mantis still standing motionless next to the Mustang. He clenched his fists and whirled around. He was going to do something, anything better than just idly standing by.

as of this moment: 25,032. my writing partner is at just over 23k.

this meeting up with someone every day at a coffeeshop to compete with each other is working amazingly. just 3 days ago i was at 11k, so i've written 14k in 3 days (and 6500 today alone). she's planning on getting to 30k by the end of the day tomorrow, so i have to do my best to keep my narrow lead on her (she's got most of the day tomorrow to write, too :()

my novel is terrible this year, though. it's got some good moments, and it might possibly be salvagable with a heavy, heavy rewrite, but i wouldn't want other people to read it until then, whereas my previous years i didn't mind people reading them, since they were mostly good stuff, if still a mess.

but at least it's looking like i'll win this year (which didn't even look possible a week ago), so that's good.

The Spoiler

I passed 40,000 tonight on my second book. I might also get some writing done while I'm on my trip, So it turns out I might not have to write any faster than normal to get done on schedule. The 10,000 words in one day was due to a snow day, by the way (yesterday I passed out after writing like 500 words or so).

And Snake, that scoreboard better be up when I get back :jerk:

Poltergeist

I'm on 45,000 words right now, I's so glad I did this.

I'm on my fourth story out of five right now (I mean that as my book is a collection of 5 stories). I think this one is going to take me up to around 51,000, making it 22,000 words long and the final story will only be 10,000 words or so. So I'm expecting a book of around 61,000 words.

I find I've become emotionally attached to each story, as gay as that sounds. The one I'm writing now is actually quite sad, to my surprise. :)

I copied and pasted my words into the box and clicked submit and it said i won. Upon further examination i realized that it meant i won nanowrimo, which i indeed did not, see i have only 18k words, and i must have pasted that in three times. Now i have all this stuff saying how i did it and how i'm awesome. Am I a bad person? :<

Only if you don't actually comeplete it. Assuming you're on thanksgiving break, get to work and don't stop.

Also, I think that if you go back and upload the 18k words in the verifier it might change you back to non-winner status. At least that's what the verify page says.

Also I just verified my stuff, but I've got 8k words to go to complete my goal of two books.

Wind-up Clock

43,500 words.

Shiiiiiit 7,000-some words to go daaaaaamn

That's only about 500 words/day more than than normal. If you fail at this I will rip the necktie out of your avatar and strangle you with it.

I just finished the first draft of aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa (not the full title), and according to nanowrimo.org my combined word count is 100119. OpenOffice has it a little bit higher, but it says both my novels are 50k+ (OpenOffice), so whatever.

Just out of curiousity, Snake. do I get a special award for doing two?

damnit, I really hoped to have at least reached 25k.

Wind-up Clock

Oog. I got a 4,000 word research paper due monday (which i didn't do a lick of), and i got college essays up the wazoo.

And about 5,700 words to go. I'm not going to sleep tonight.

The Spoiler

That's the spirit. Hope the college essays are short.

So I'll just leave my 10k here at the door. :( I was so excited for this and now I feel like a big douche.

This weekend won't do since I've got to start and finish an animation on hikikomori for school, and 40k doesn't come easy.

'Till next year I guess.
