WELCOME TO NATIONAL NOVEL WRITING MONTH

Every year in November, the world gathers for a mission of literary abandon. The goal of this mission is to write a 50,000-word book between November 1 and November 30. A daunting task, to be sure, but it can be done, and the results can be grand!

This year, I've arranged for an official Clock Crew Nanowrimo group. From this forum, we can brainstorm plots, compare characters, log word counts, and receive moral support when we're in the long, painful drag of Week 2. From here, dreams will come true! We'll shed our inhibitions and nagging doubts of our own ability, and just plunge!

But we won't be going into this adventure cold, of course. Lots of prep work must be done to get us ready for the real work in November, and this forum is available to get all that figured out. We can outline our stories, bounce ideas off each other, compose our book's plot outline, and trade useful survival tips.

If you would like to participate, click here to register and receive the pertinent information. Hope to see you there! ;)

I'll probably enter and end up stopping at 10k :c

also why does the link redirect us here?
I thought it would direct us to the nanowrimo site to sign up

Because the NaNoWriMo site is down due to a server failure, and because I want the Clock Crew to have its own NaNoWriMo community.

Go to the registration thread and put your name down.

Am I the only one who thinks this is I'm a edgy teen?

Whats the point of writing a novel if you have only a month to do it. I'm not going to believe that any kind of fine writing is going to be conceived, written and edited by someone whos doing it for the sole purpose of completing in 30 days.

well the sole purpose is writing it in 30 days. The fact that everyone's doing it together makes it interesting.
of course this will not bring forth any spectacular novels.

You'd be surprised, actually. And besides that, the point of the event is to lose your inhibitions; many people want to write a novel, but keep dwelling on the possibility that it won't be very good. You dwell on it so hard and question the worth of it so much that you never get anything done. With NaNoWriMo, you don't think about that and you just produce! The strongest motivator is a deadline and an idea. It's a journey of literary abandon.

I think you should join, Sir. It'll be wild.

I really look forward to reading the second section of that book, but I'm not up for "creating rifts in the temporal fabric of the universe and jeopardizing the lives of everyone on this planet" by skipping ahead. It really is a good motivator.

I have the feeling I'll be able to apply the tips given, and the experience from the whole thing, to any other artistic project I may have coming my way. One thing's for sure, it'll be an unforgettable ride.

There's that about it, too. You don't go through an event like this unchanged.

I guess I'm not a fan of the "just produce" method. Too may people "just produce" with no time to think.

It's remarkable what you can make if you don't overthink it.

"But what of the gunslinger's murky past? God, I know so little. The revolution that topples the gunslinger's "world of light"? I don't know. Roland's final confrontation with Marten, who seduces his mother and kills his father? Don't know. The deaths of Roland's compatriots, Cuthbert and Jamie, or his adventures during the years between his coming of age and his first appearance to us in the desert? I don't know that, either. And there's this girl, Susan. Who is she? Don't know.

Except somewhere inside, I do. Somewhere inside I know all of those things, and there is no need of an argument, or a synopsis, or an outline (outlines are the last resources of bad fiction writers who wish to God they were writing masters' theses). When it's time, those things- and their relevance to the gunslinger's quest- will roll out as naturally as tears or laughter. And if they never get around to rolling out, well, as Confucius once said, five hundred million red Chinese don't give a shit."

- Stephen King, upon completion of The Gunslinger, the first book of the acclaimed 7-part series The Dark Tower.

Pertinent.
