Coil's are an extended primitive in 3ds max, so modelling it is rather easy.
Although I'd have to say a solenoid would be one of those things that would be hard to keep low poly(you could texture the coil on though).
And I'd say it'd only be a long render if you had a slight reflection on the copper.
