I've been meaning to acquaint myself with this series for a while (and it only sort of has to do with Yahtzee's enthusiasm). I'm very excited about it!

I probably won't sleep for weeks. :p

I played 2.  Scary as fuck (only play at night with all the lights off, but you knew that).

I've been trying to get 1 and 3.  No luck, yet.

BluezombieClock

I've only played the new one and it wasn't that scary

Good thing you skipped the first game. Well, some may argue that point, but I didn't really like it. I loved 2, though. I never finished 3 and 4 because I kept getting frustrated with the clunky combat, but I still loved the atmosphere and art design.

Well of course it wasn't. It was developed by Americans that didn't get why Silent Hill is so damned frightening.

I watched a friend of mine play the first Silent Hill start to finish. I think I got the whole experience there.

I'm here to argue this point.
I liked number one okay. ):<

There are a lot of people that do. I just wasn't a fan of the ugly fog, tank controls and clumsy combat. Sure, the sequel still had awkward controls and the combat wasn't much better, but at least now the graphics were there to actually create a creepy and immersive environment.

2 is THE best game ever made. 3 is ok (horrible voice acting aside, I mean REALLY BAD) but I don't like how they reveal so much about why silent hill is the way it is. I liked how 2 really let you draw your own conclusions.

I actually haven't finished 3 yet.

I'm a wuss so I had to beat Silent Hill 2 in the relative light of my dim lamp. The atmosphere is what fucks with you more than the monsters.

I love games and movies that do this, too.  It's my favorite kind of scare.
It's a shame more don't do it :(

I own SH2~4, and I might buy 5 sometime in the future. I played SH1 (in like 1999), and nothing else in the series really compares to it. To fully experience the series, you need the sound effect volume up real loud, whilst being in a really dark setting.

You're going to really love the Borley Haunted Mansion in 3, it's probably my most favorite place in all of the series. It's probably the place where it got my adrenaline pumping the most, too.

The mansion's awesomeness was ruined by the fact that I literally had to go through it 10 times because I kept dieing.
