Read this article, yes, it's long as hell, but it's worth it. You will gain a new respect for Nintendo.

If you want an extremely short summary I suppose I could say the first point is "Other companies are looking at the Wii and trying to imitate it, like a man taping feathers to himself trying to imitate a bird, looking at just the wings instead of studying the mechanics of flight, and thus failing" and the second "The wii is not a casual system, it's merely starting with casual games and slowly working it's way up to hardcore games to ease new customers into gaming". Remember the DS not being that great at first? Look at it now.

I misread the title as Batman and Casual Fallacy.

I already had a great respect for Nintendo, and this only serves it further.

The new video game overtthnker has some really great things to add to this

I remember phoenix wright being great and apollo justice being slightly less and I haven't seen anything better after that.

the only thing I can say is that I blame the third party developers for such close-mind thinking

I have to disagree about the overthinker on grinding. I don't think acceptance of the work in games makes you hardcore. I don't think work should be a necessity to play a game, something, as yahtzee has put, is specifically meant to be enjoyed.

His point was that if you play a game even when you don't enjoy it specifically for nerdy purposes, it's a hardcore thing to do gamer-wise, and it is. Did I love the Wind Waker to bits? Hell yes. Did I enjoy getting every single fucking god damned sea chart? Fuck no. Was there any pay off? Fuck no. Did I do it anyway? You bet I did, and that makes me a huge freaking nerd, and in gamer talk, the bigger nerd you are, the more hardcore you are.

Wow, you pointed out the one timewasting thing I can most identify with.

I sorta have OCD or something so it was kinda enjoyable to sail all 49 squares and feed a bunch of damned fish, because at the end, it was whole, and it was beautiful.

Consider my point of view changed.
