I watched digimon when I was little

here's the only scene I could remember years later (first minute)

you can imagine, with nobody to confirm my memories, how this scene must have expanded in my imagination, with the twilight zone, twin peaks, and the x-files as its most prominent neighbors.

what was going on in that show, I'd often wonder, in the pre-shonen jump world of american anime consumption. how does everybody else remember a pokemon rip off and I remember scared children trapped on a reality-defying island, unable to contact their parents?

The episode I remember is when they are all in the sewers, and they have to fight digimon slug things, but then they meet some robot dude and I'm pretty sure he is a dick at first, but then he ends up being cool. Was he a digimon too? Idk

Everybody thought it was just a straight up pokemon ripoff at first. then it ended up being it's own thing. They actually had a coherent plot too. I remember my favorite being Season 3 (lol evangelion lite), and then season 4 onwards I stopped giving a shit. Robopon though now there was a shitty pokemon ripoff.

I swear everyone but me played those games. I just had Nintendo and Sega systems at the time.

Season 3 was the one i posted the intro from; Digimon Tamers. It's also the one Miraclefruit is thinking of. I remember loving it, and not giving a shit about seasons 1 & 2. I hear it holds up reasonably well, but I can't make myself watch it again. I kind of like it occupying this small nostalgic corner of my mind where i forget about it and then rediscover it every once in a while.

speaking of old kids-fcused anime, I've been getting into dragonball z for the first time and damn it is not a bad show. Goku just has such a good attitude man.

Dragonball Z should have just been Piccolo and Goku learning to drive for 300 episodes. The best parts of DBZ were Goku trying and failing to operate in normal society.

Season 4 (frontier) actually had the characters transform and they didn't have any partners, so I'm guessing that's what he's referring to.

really i thought that season was fuckin garbage

at the end of season 3 the kids merging with their digimon was this huge thing, and season 4 just trivialized the shit out of it and made it lame

Now if we wanna talk about rip offs, Summer Wars is pretty obviously just Digimon the Movie but with avatars instead of Digimon. That said, both are still pretty legit movies.

OG Digimon was a good show, but my friends and I tried to rewatch season 1 one time and by God, the voice acting is just atrocious. I feel like when you're a kid you have a natural tolerance to that but jeeeeeez it's bad.
