if you have a steam controller, there's some talk about mapping the gyro to the right stick and a pretty easily accessible hack to emulate it with button/stick controls, after a very very quick google search

ed: oh damn and kigb has a motion controls option that's defaulted to the numpad that works for it. Could finagle that onto a gyro controller with less work, I bet

And now I'm going to talk about ladyfolk. Some of you have already lamented the absence of opportunities to subject women to your protusions, now [u2]_zMQKoprWA4[/u2]

On a day to day basis, I no longer do some of the things I used to (e.g. school, customer-facing jobs) that would put me in regular, in-person contact with new women people and give me a reason to be talking to them in the first place.

I'm on Tinder. Tinder has an occasional green-haired Slayer fan. For me, this mostly translates to "Here's someone I'm somewhat likely to share some attitudes with. I'm not really into metal, so if we matched, I'd need to find something to talk to a stranger about that isn't going to make her feel as if I'm grasping at straws to find a way into her pants." Tinder is like a real-life happenstance "single encounter" in that there's very likely to be nothing to talk about. Both parties might come out of the encounter feeling as if there hadn't been anything of value in it; even if the same two people, stuck together at a job, might become fast friends.

Even if I were to catch someone at the grocery store with a Hamilton Wood Type tote bag, which potentially puts them and me into a particular small subset of people who have been to Two Rivers, Wisconsin, striking up a conversation about this one unusual thing we have in common doesn't mean I get their digits, that I ever see them again, or that they're single. Which is not to say it doesn't feel nice to share something like that briefly with a stranger.

At times I'm all "aw shucks" about pretty people I'll probably never see or talk to again, but at least those encounters confirm that such people exist. I never feel as if those are missed opportunities, though, because relationships basically start on the second meeting, right? When you can talk about the last time you saw each other and what's transpired since?

still convinced the best way to meet people irl is to regularly show up to places/events that people regularly show up to

I don't have the volume all the way up and the first line of the song sounded like Diana Ross shouting "I can't come... bla bla my feelings." Which is appropriate.

Uhhh no yeah sure, I mean rationally there's only a tiny lil microscopic chance something like that is a missed opportunity, it's more that my brain fucks me retroactively. The whole "aw shucks" feeling is unnecessary. It was a nice little moment, that's it, move on. Feelings right? Ugh.

Somewhat related: Do you feel that some conversations in general boil down to grasping at straws? Or rather, trying to drag conversation out of someone? Not because I have to talk, but you know, why not? "You go to college? Yes... What do you study? Law... Enjoying that? Yes... it's fun... How about that recent development regarding law in the news? Haven't heard..." I mean I can tell when people don't feel like talking, this is something else. They watch you attentively and eagerly await the next question it seems. Just no input.

Conversely there are co-workers, acquaintances, friends who will happily talk to (at?) you at length about the activities of their kid nephew or reality TV episode or shoe collection. Which must feel something like seeing a new GreyClock post rambling on about whatever. (Normally I'd try to turn a post like this into a more cohesive thought, but my brain shut down halfway through so it's just a string of half-baked observations. (I'm not even sure what I'm looking for here. "Well GreyClock, here's a blueprint for all human interaction..."?)

A female coworker I've had the hots for for a number of years now made a crack about my physical stature today (6'4 160lbs, I'm a lanky fuck) and then laughed for about half a minute so I'm going to opt out of conversing about women and the pursuit there of for this evening

I think some people are bad at talking

I only get by because of the kind of people who ask "how are you?" and really want an answer. I have to make an effort to ask, because otherwise my "conversation" subroutine assumes people will just talk about themselves. I do endeavor to make conversations conversations and not interviews, but maybe some people don't recognize the difference

People who go on about things like what their nephew did, their shoe collection, etc. -- sometimes if you're stuck in a waiting room or something, it passes time to let someone soliloquize about some subject about which they have more than 30 seconds of material, but in less desperate situations, I think it's either disregard for what the other person would find interesting, or it's your friend (me) who knows his shit's boring, but please just listen to my dumb shit for a minute because we're invested in each other anyway and I'll do the same for you later.

My favorite anecdote from my chinese teacher was actually reading an article she wrote (in super basic english) for people going the other way, starting from chinese and learning english. When she first got to California, she thought everybody was SUPER NICE because they'd ask 'how was your day' and 'how are you' and she'd go on into these super friendly stories about her day until she realized that's just a polite greeting here and, in the words that stuck with me, "americans don't actually care about your day"

also lmao last of us 2. glad I didn't bother with the first one.
do I want to know?

I played the the first one once for like 6 or 7 hours and it was alright but then I did the exact thing that I swore I wasn't going to do, which was not pick it up again for so long that I forget everything that happened and also how to play

but I do seem to recall (albeit vaguely) that it reminded me of the good that can come from crafted, linear single-player games, which was something I'd gotten kind of snooty about while sneering at call of duty and lasciviously rubbing my ass and balls and taint all over immersive sims

I mostly remember hitting dudes with a pipe because I took a funny video of it
[u2]UXVxgtIkxfE[/u2]
ragdolls lol

I also remember everybody in the game having a complete and bewildering misunderstanding of how echolocation works and yet, solid snake-like, their stupidity proving to be stronger than their reality

also Ellie stealing your neckbeard friend's cum-soaked gay porn, but that was actually pretty heartwarming

honestly? if you have any affection at all for the characters and story, especially Ellie and Joel, no, I'd recommend not looking into it. I won't go into detail, but the game goes out of it's way to destroy those two characters on a fundamental level and actively insult the player for liking the first game at the same time. and the game is written in a way that assumes you'll approve of it.

I don't care though so I'm enjoying the hell out of this, the edits are absolute fucking gold I love it. plus the drama is entertaining and it's gonna keep snowballing as we approach the newly announced emergency release date. I always enjoy a good trashfire. I'm sure I wouldn't be so amused if it they got their hands on something I care about, but they didn't, so I laugh. the past decade had a lot of bad sequels and reboots but I can say without exaggeration that this is the worse than all of them. I've never seen anything like it. only on a story level though, the gameplay seems... fine? a lot less zombies than tlou1 from the looks of it but it seems mechanically sound. graphics are good but not "took six years to make" good. definitely impressive at times though.

yeah I think this is part of what happened. all the "citizen kane of video games best narrative of all time" praise went to the writer's head judging by all the leaks. this is what happens when a self-absorbed nihilist surrounded by sycophantic yes-men makes a game or a movie with no oversight.

eh 👋

sounds like a mess though, I'll wait until the rest of the world stops caring

speaking of which, have you guys seen transformers 3?

Slurpee

I want to shake the hand of whoever the fucking genius was that reimagined shockwave'as being part... detachable, writhing mass of teeth and gnashing tendrils, ascending through the ground under the ruins of chernobyl like the specter of soviet hubris given hellish unlife as a biomechanical shoggoth
forget that this is transformers for a minute and just watch this otherworldly terror:
[u2]r7jJaDFsEfk[/u2]

(pripyat scene starts at 1:42, shockwave shows up at 3:30, watch from 3:00 maybe? (or as much of the build before as you have the patience for))

whenever I say weird shit about the potential for movie monsters "playing with the boundaries of film" or brechtian whatever blah blah blah idk, this is the kind of thing I'm talking about
the movements on display here are not possible in 3d space. the beast's location seems consistent between cuts, but when it's all assembled end to end, it emerges impossibly from bizarre angles, swimming in and out of the movie set from the higher dimensional space of continuity editing
then we move to a wide and it's clearly one thing where it was obviously not a moment ago
whether intentionally or an emergent accident of cgi bayhem, it defies the geography of the scene. it's everywhere and it's nowhere and it's right there, it's tunneling through the scenery and it's devouring it, it has one head and it has many heads, it's a part of shockwave and it's not, it's a robot and it's alive
truly monstrous

shockwave was... the purple decepticon with the inexplicable british accent, if I'm remembering correctly

this is like the anime side villain that you like more than the main villain and maybe even the protagonists because he's just cooler
even the unflappable avatar of neoconservativism that calls itself optimus prime in these flicks seems a little thunderstruck by this fucking force of nature

you'd hardly know it from watching this, but in canon the tentacle(s) are a separate thing from shockwave called "the driller" but I choose to ignore that because it's stupid. look at the way he rises out of them at 4:48, and we're supposed to buy that this is just like his pet or something? ridonk.

then he just pisses off after barely a minute of screentime and you're stuck watching the transformers movie they accidentally put this scene into

Slurpee

the forgettable human protagonists somehow end up in this ridiculous set-piece where a building in chicago is falling over, and the action is so poorly directed that the characters have to scream "jump out the window!" for you to know that their plan is to jump out the window

(and it's still not clear WHY that was their plan because they're in a skyscraper. they end up sliding down the side of the building (since it's falling) and then they shoot out some other windows to fall through, but they're screaming in terror and covered in broken glass the entire time, and somebody shouts "shoot the glass!" so up until that point their plan can only have been to die???)

and at this point you're sighing ruefully and thinking about how much more clear and absorbing the action in Fury Road managed to be without becoming such a chaotic mess that they have to resort to characters screaming what's happening, and you're wondering why you're watching this instead of Fury Road

then Shockwave comes back WOOP WOOP
[u2]47h8gQ6WrsM[/u2]

(6:18)

it's not as good as his first scene but it's still pretty nuts
his snake dick like simultaneously wraps around the building while also boring through it, the body turning into this horrifying steel cable-like thing mechanically ratcheting its constriction around the building tighter and tighter until it collapses, while also swimming through it, devouring metal, glass, and concrete as the people inside flee in horror and gawdddd just what the fuck why is this thing so cool
if your brain is exhausted from the preceding 17 hours of MICHAEL BAY, you might remember it as just like a flying serpent thing, like those things in the first avengers movie, but it's so much cooler. it wraps the building, it drills through the building; it's eating, it's drilling; it's mechanical, it's animal, it's a giant snake made out of teeth and smaller but also giant snakes- it's fucking unearthly, it kicks so much ass

then optimus "the queef" prime inexplicably flies in on a holy-shit red white and blue jetpack, duel-wielding automatic pistols, announces "I'm coming for you!!!" and starts shooting the evil snek
then he fires rockets not at shockwave but at the collapsing building :waitwhat: he fucking blows the shit out of the occupied building so he can fly through it and just slice through the snake with his whole ass body. absolutely bewildering
but yeah, there's about 5 minutes of something really damn cool in this trainwreck

and that's shockwave in transformers 3, thank you

reedman from transformers 2 gives off similar "was this meant to be in a better movie?" vibes but this would be like a weird eastern european arthouse movie

[u2]6zticYYPzEE[/u2]

I'm too tired to put it over as hard as shockwave rn but note how he disappears when he looks at the camera like an object made of a single polygon in an n64 game
and how he was made out of tiny marbles puked up by a robot tiger from a rocket fired out of space (???)

2 is an insane movie even by the standards of the transformers films because it was "written" during the wga strike and I think a lot of the movie happened by accident
this is the one where shia lebouf dies and goes to robot heaven
there's also a subplot about the decepticons being unable to produce viable offspring, and it is unequivocally framed as the good guys' fault as the robot devil/blind idiot god shits out starving infants on a dying robot moon
but all anybody remembers is the racist robots and devastator's balls

FLOUNDERMAN_CLOCK

I like it. I've loved weird horrible worm monsters since tremors. I loved tremors as a kid, almost as much as alien. I might have seen  part of the dune tv series in a hotel before that but I don't remember. but tremors was still top worm even if dune was first worm. and guy was one of my favorite yugiohs.

that tiger zoid thing is great too, I especially like it's face and teeth. the best designs in the transformers movies are always the things that aren't regular humanoid transformers.

Yeah, including me. I used to be terrible, now I don't care anymore and just go for it. An interview is a good word for it. An interview with someone who doesn't want to reveal too much information. That's not it either, maybe they're just shy. Maybe they're profoundly uninterested in me. Or indeed unaware of the distinction. During these interviews there are always these moments, cues where you're like "now ask me a similar question" and it often doesn't happen. Like, how are you VCR?

There's also whatever that is, on steroids. I had occasion to talk with not one, but two older dudes a while ago. Not much in terms of education. Low-paying jobs. A little bitter about that, and a string of other things I imagine. I always used to wonder who these people are who leave angry rants in the online comment sections of local newspapers. These guys. They both toned it down a bit I could tell, but I was treated to one ill-informed monologue about immigration and one about global warming. Both delivered in a weirdly intense way, almost prepared. Like rattling off a stump speech. Very dismissive of or downright ignoring my questions and counterpoints. Later I overheard them patting each other on the back, talking about the wool that's being pulled over the eyes of John Q. Public. That's right you bozos, you figured it all out, you figured out the way of the world.

You guys ever dreamed any interesting monsters? I had the wall of hair that curved back over the horizon. I had the vagina-faced spider crab a.k.a. Freud's field day. This morning I had children with faces made up of bubbles, bubbles that somehow simultaneously cut through you like black tendrils.
