if you've ever been walking, hungry, near a restaurant where the dining room was closed but the drive thru was open, and you got told they couldn't serve you unless you were in a car (because no car means you are poor and therefore you are trying to rob the store) you will understand where this man is coming from

<PhantomCatClock> are we talking about the same clock crew

it's like a dung beetle but it's a rabbit and it finds enormous balls of dung and uses its hoppity legs to launch them across the plains for sustenance and to woo a mate. i call it the dung rabbit.

playing mgsv
by and large I have no idea what's going on in this game, and I don't think anyone does
I'm pretty sure that's partially by design and partially because they didn't finish making it
it's weird that it's simultaneously one of the best games ever made and a buggy janky piece of shit

anyway, there's a mission (#10) where you're extracting a prisoner named malak, and one of the optional objectives is to listen to the conversation between him and the transport truck driver
you can't trip any alerts or the conversation won't happen because they'll drive off in a panic, and you have to stick really close or the conversation won't trigger
but if you manage to do it, the transport truck driver chats with other soldiers along the way and he notices malak is sick. the soldiers say they're probably going to have a doctor check him out. they talk about malak's village being hit with some kind of weird disease and a mysterious fire, and malak's family being dead. they say something about an autopsy- apparently it's becoming standard procedure to perform autopsies on living prisoners for some reason. every outpost they stop at, the transport truck driver tells malak how much farther the ride is going to be, and warns him when it's going to get bumpy. the driver encourages malak to hang in there and tells him a doctor's going to check him out when they get there
they arrive at their destination and the transport truck driver asks about the doctor. the soldier he meets tells him there is no doctor, and malak is to be interrogated. the driver expresses shock and says malak is going to die, but is reminded he's a soldier and needs to follow orders or he'll be reported. he escorts malak into the interrogation room. when they're alone, knowing he'd unintentionally misled him about the doctor, the driver lies and tells malak he just heard them say that his family is being kept alive. he reminds him that he's a soldier and encourages him to be strong before departing. another soldier comes in and starts interrogating malak, kicking him and shouting questions

then snake breaks in and knocks everybody out with sleep grenades and lightning punches

malak is too injured to be extracted via fulton, so you have to physically pick him up and move him to a landing zone, where you'll request a helicopter evac
malak is confused as you carry him out, muttering incoherently and begging you not to turn him over to people he doesn't know, until you tell him you're taking him to outer heaven. he seems to like this. then malak informs you that he didn't understand a word the soldiers were saying, and says it's just as well- they were probably just mocking his family

that's really sad
(except for the part with snake)
it's kinda crazy that it's completely missable. you could put a bullet in the transport truck driver's head two minutes into the mission and never know the difference (and the objective is so difficult with such a low return on investment for anything other than completionism, that's probably actually more likely than the alternative)

I always thought it was cool how, in guardians of the galaxy, there's just boxes of scrap space technology lying around, and when the situation calls for it rocket raccoon picks up few pieces and shlunks them together into a bomb or a bazooka or whatever
it's like his super power. he's a super-tinkerer

Slurpee

it makes me want to roll a character like that in uh probably not d&d but maybe shadowrun or spycraft or something
otoh that might not actually be very fun to roleplay because there's not actually boxes of scrap you can macguyver in interesting ways so every time you want to do it it would just be like "I try to make a _____" "ok" *rolls* "you do"
you might as well just be pulling weapons out of the timestream like kang the conqueror if that's how it's gonna go

maybe a video game?
or maybe I'm just describing don't starve or rust or dead rising 2 lol
or banjo kazooie nuts and bolts
idk I just like... what the hell do I like about this?
I like... the idea of... a character who, the thing that makes them special is, they're hyper competent at repurposing things from the environment that everybody else regards as junk
whoa shit maybe that's why I mained junkrat in overwatch

Slurpee

is there a mad max tabletop rpg?

how was the mad max video game from a while back? not  necessarily in relation to anything I'm talking about just wondering how it was

RobClock

fun but kind of repetitive and grindy
