he had scoobyduberculosis in his forties so he went to Samoa and was like "man this weather feels nice on my tuberc, I think I'll just move here" so he and his wife bought three hundred acres on the side of a mountain and the locals fell in love with him and called him the BOOK MAN or whatever in Samoan, died four years later and all the Samoans in all the land came and carried his coffin to his crypt (ok like 200 people but still) and he wrote a cool poem for them to put on his tomb, the second verse of which got around so much even I'd heard it before

how come when jekyll becomes hyde he loses his medical degree
the university told him the doctorate is only valid for the original personality and he would have to pay a separate tuition fee for each additional personality even if he retains memories and qualities from the original personality. this is also the case for demonic possession and brain parasites.

(ok but for real hyde was supposed to be a disguise)

My main rig, my dude. I have an external floppy drive and a CD rom drive so you can just run them off disc with emulation. I had a Thinkpad running win98 but she bit the bullet. Would like to get it running again but alas free time for such frivolity is in short supply.

I was trying to figure out why I don't know all the lyrics to Space Jam, and I think it's because the ones I don't know are all stupid

QuoteParty people in the house let's go
It's your boy Jay Ski a'ight so
wtf r u doing jay ski? count the syllables, dawg

he doesn't even like bend the words into a slide, he just skips an entire note like a crazy person
how do you not notice this while rapping it? it's so clunky

QuotePass that thing and watch me flex
Behind my back, you know what's next
these are fine
they're part of the good parts that I know
there's a double-eighth but that's fine he speeds it up, the flow works

QuoteTo the jam, all in your face
Wassup (wassup) just feel the bass
another skipped beat
or, somehow, an extra beat???
it's like the background singers came in to try to rescue him but they also didn't know how to count

and this obvious crutch of filler words– "hey" "let's go" "a'ight" "wassup"
half the words are meaningless nonsense and you still can't fill out the bar?

and even the words that aren't filler don't mean anything

what's to the jam? what's in my face? feel the bass? weren't you juking me in basketball a second ago?

QuoteDrop it, rock it, down the room
Shake it, quake it, space KABOOM
Just work that body, work that body, make sure you don't hurt nobody
Get wild and lose your mind
Take this thing into overtime
Hey DJ! TURN IT UP
QCD gon' BURN IT UP
these, though, are perfect. flawless
legendary, in fact
can't fault them at all

QuoteC'mon y'all get on the floor
So hey let's go a'ight
jesus christ. jesus christ.

duhhh I'm jetski, I'm a rapper, check out these amazing rhymes I wrote:
c'mon y'all! hey wassup baby
shanana, let's go word up hey
a'ight c'mon, yeah let's go wassup
wassup hey can't get enough
HERE WE GO! let's start this show
wassup hey a'ight let's go
c'mon (c'mon) now, wassup let's now
y'all we now, wassup what's hey

Slurpee

you know what though?
they're the quad city dj's, not the quad city mc's

the song is perfect

Slurpee

it's one of those immaculate pop songs like "groove is in the heart" or "toxic" where every part isn't like perfect in and of itself, but it's exactly where it needs to be

Slurpee

QuoteDrop it, rock it, down the room
Shake it, quake it, space KABOOM
note the rhyme scheme here
AAB
CCB
it creates this marching staccato with what feels like a dangling catalectic because of the 7-note bar
but then he closes with the onomatopoetic KABOOM

which dovetails into the high energy
Quote
Just work that body, work that body, make sure you don't hurt nobody
this is actually two lines, but the background singers harmonize everything after "just", which sells it as a single complete idea
I'm blanking on what this technique is called, but it's a thing in lyrics and poetry where a single sentence is broken up across multiple lines, which usually creates a ponderous effect- the weakerthans use it a lot- but here the internal slant rhyming slant rhyme ("work ____ body" and "hurt ____ body") makes it feel more like a rush, like there's too much to fit in a single bar and it's boiling over
which leads into
QuoteGet wild and lose your mind
Take this thing into overtime
and here the lyrical content cleanly unites the high-energy momentum ("get wild" and "lose your mind") with the hitherto half-hearted basketball imagery ("overtime")
which brings it to
QuoteHey DJ! TURN IT UP
QCD gon' BURN IT UP
note there's a missed syllable in the first line, but now the pause is at an appropriate place- "hey dj" [beat] "turn it up!"
he's joined by the chorus again for (again, high-energy, escalating) "turn it up", which gives it a call and response feel, but instead it segues into the braggadocious second line
"kaboom", "turn it up", "burn"- now those discrepancies from earlier are starting to make sense. they're rapping at a basketball game, and they're doing such a good job the energy is liable to become destructive

the meekness last two bars feels like such a step down after this
QuoteC'mon y'all get on the floor
So hey let's go a'ight
but, taken on the whole, it serves the same purpose as "the "down the room" lyric from earlier - it's a little trip up, a bit of hangtime, just before the hook comes roaring back
QuoteEverybody get up it's time to slam now
We got a real jam goin' down
Welcome to the Space Jam
Here's your chance, do your dance
At the Space Jam alright
the powerful, sultry, somewhat husky female vocals that opened the song just swoop you right back up

alright I'm done talking about this

remind me to post about Stayin' Alive later, specifically why I hate it

HOLY SHIT IT'S CALLED ENJAMBMENT

THAT WASN'T EVEN INTENTIONAL

jay z is pretty featured on that soundtrack and i know he was part of NWA so i just assumed he was saying IT'S YOUR BOY JAY Z all these years and assumed he was in QCD too

they had another song that was very popular and space jambment has a throwback to it they're basically the beatles

PhantomCatClock

that wouldn't work, i like stayin' alive

If slurpee hadn't come at you for mis-coasting Jay-Z I would've

the only "imperfections" in rapper's delight are where Big Bank Hank stole rhymes written by Grandmaster Caz, which is why there's a verse where the speaker introduces themselves as "Casanova Fly" although the members of the group are ostensibly Big Bank Hank, Wonder Mike and Master Gee
<Marlin Clock> This thread seems proof positive that divisiveness at any level is usually bad for the Clock Crew.
<PhantomCatClock> are we talking about the same clock crew
