It's a literature class, so it's like any other lit class. You study pieces critically, open dialogues about meaning, technique, etc., and write papers or do assignments on the results.

And I took it because I have always liked poetry and I had avoided reading a lot of it because I feared it would affect my own style, but I am over that now so I wanted to study some of the classics.
