It's sad that Brokeback Mountain became known as "the gay cowboy movie" for multiple reasons; one of them being that I feel like I'm going to be accused of ripping off the concept of two male, macho stereotypes falling in love with each other when I workshop my story about two gay WWI-era soldiers next week. If I were a betting man I might lay money down on someone using the phrase "It sounds like Brokeback Mountain meets All Quiet on the Western Front." But I'm not.
