I came here to post that I was imagining a young boy's dad taking him to the city to see a marching band and in the middle of a marching band honking their tubas and twirling their sticks and everything his dad suddenly takes a knee and grabs him by the shoulders and in all seriousness says "son, when you grow up, will you be the savior of the broken, the beaten and the damned? will you defeat them? your DEMONS!? and all the non-believers- the plans that they have made?" and the kid just being confused and terrified and it's really funny to me

it wasn't printed in my newspaper growing up, so I've only read it at all in the past 5 years. I was thinking, knowing what I do about syndicated comics, was Heathcliff always like this? if so, how the hell do you get that into syndication, when the humor is this absurd in-joke logic that only makes sense if you regularly read Heathcliff? (and the fact that you are reading Heathcliff is essential to the punchline?) how many sample gag panels would you have to send to some guy at Creators Syndicate for him to think America would "get it?"

anyway Wikipedia says Heathcliff got weirder when Peter Gallagher took over from his uncles in 1998, so I guess it's like this previously injected dumb cat panel is the attack vector for whatever Heathcliff is now

to anyone who hasn't kept up: however weird you think heathcliff got, it got weirder. If you've seen an edited one on the internet with wildly inappropriate humor, or just insane / internet-type-humor, there is a decent chance it wasn't actually edited and that was what got sent to the papers.

a wee bit into Final Fantasy I and for such a dense RPG, this seems like it'd have a lot of replay value



though if I replayed it, it would not be the NES version solely because apparently everything costs half as much in every re-release of this and the pixel remaster (which I already have on Steam) lets you buy MORE THAN ONE POTION AT A TIME CAN YOU IMAGINE

don't let those two minor criticisms fool you, though. It's great seeing what stuck from GAME ONE. Some musical cues, some character designs, some enemy names, spells and items. Also cool that the spells follow D&D rules instead of a mana/points system. The story starts on Star Fox 64 so that's also fun but WHERE'S THE FUCKING CHOCOBOS
