I saw some fanart of Boc the Seamster and I thought "that's not what Boc looks like"

then I thought, "wait... IS that what Boc looks like? :sherlock:"
and I looked up some more
and people always draw him... weirdly weirdly. like weird in a weird way. it's never weird in the same way twice

and I realized I don't know what Boc looks like, and that this extends to when I am currently looking at him

seriously, what does he look like?
is his face white? dark with a light snout? dark with a pink snout? does he have a short protruding snout like lucario, or it is long and downward sloping like a opossum? does his nose have a little black puppy tip or no? are his eyes black? yellow? how wide is his mouth, is it a weird little tiny mouth or is it wide like a dog's? does he have a mass of disfiguring lumpy scars on the side of his face or doesn't he? does he have needle teeth, or rodent teeth? IS HE WEARING PANTS? why do I feel like I can't give a definite yes or no answer to "is this character wearing pants"?!

then I realized, pretty much every screenshot and video of Elden Ring has this quality
they somehow made an entire open world 3D video game impressionistic. Elden Ring always looks like a suggestion of itself. I hadn't thought much about its art direction, but that's actually an insane accomplishment. how do you make a 3D model that doesn't look like a specific shape?

i've been reading Interview With Das Vampire and in my head, Lestat looks like Astarion, so he's this cool sexy guy leading Louis but kinda being bipolar about it

i have been a GOOD BOY all week so i looked up some scenes i've already read because I remember the movie being good and Louis was mm-mm perfect, but then lestat came in and i forgot he was played by BITCHASS TOM CRUISE god DAMMIT is it the mandela effect that he was played by astarion

anyway i'm saying i can relate

IS HE WEARING PANTS?

my vote is neaurr 😏

the picture I quoted is pretty cool, you can kind of see in the furry part of his arms that there's this texture that looks like a field of dots/brushstrokes. the dots don't look attached to the arm, but you're always looking at the arm through the dots. hair is kind of like that but it's just usually attached to people

but yeah the other textures do look more like 'painting' than like necessarily low-res realism. naturally the shading is still 3d computed because that's how it's done and that's what we expect, but I bet it would be brazy if shading could also be applied less literally
<Marlin Clock> This thread seems proof positive that divisiveness at any level is usually bad for the Clock Crew.
<PhantomCatClock> are we talking about the same clock crew

whoa
I feel like this is liable to send me down a rabbithole but because of adhd it would only last until the first time somebody interrupts me or I fall asleep and that won't be sufficient time to get any kind of grip on it so I might as well not follow that rabbit

back in the internetcult.org era, that forum also operated on an earlier version of smf

at the time there was an smf 1.x theme called gunsmoke

*clarence reid as blowfly voice* but you know we're not gonna do it that way

so the theme was installed as buttsmoke

haha

in practice I dunno if it was ever used, I only remember a green theme that Weenie Roast worked on

my cat died Saturday past. I adopted him from the neighbor girl at the start of the pandemic because she had to go home to Ontario on account of her job on the airline getting shut down. He was 14 then, and i was upon the brink of homelessness following a three year stint of drinking myself to sleep every night. After a couple of months sleeping on a friend's couch, he and I moved into my current home when there was no insulation in the walls, no heat, and the only running water was a toilet and one cold water faucet tap. We slept together in a sleeping bag on a chesterfield with busted springs for four months before i got the bedroom walls closed in with drywall and moved a bed into the house.

I slept in on account of the power going out overnight, got up around noon when it came back on, showered, and the missus and I were getting ready to leave the house around 2:00 when it struck me that Puck hadn't come screaming for breakfast or dinner. I found him sleeping under my desk in the office, which was an uncharacteristic spot for him because the dogs tend to play in there. I woke him and asked if he wanted food but he just rolled back over, so I brought it into him so I could be sure he had something before I left. He wouldn't eat. Light panic started on me and I went to the living room to tell the girlfriend the situation, and thats when I saw the bloody piss in the corner. Frantic call to the veterinarian, and a speedy drive later, I'm looking at the most horrific bloodwork I can imagine. Kidney failure, anemia, and an autoimmune condition called IMHA. The vet tells me that he would require a total blood transfusion, three days worth of fluids to see if his kidneys would come back around, and even then there could be no guarantee that he would live another month. So after bawling my eyes out in the pouring rain and going back in to feel the life leave his body, even then he purred as I held him weeping, I drove home with my sweet boy wrapped in the blanket he slept on next to the woodstove, and buried him next to my dog, 10 years, two months, and one day since I had dug the hole she lays in.

Its painful being at home because everything reminds me of him. I look for him every time I step into a room and its depressing waking up without him rubbing against me for breakfast. He was with me through the lowest period of my life. When I had nothing and no-one, it was me and him. I miss him so fucking much.

I know its somewhat ridiculous to grieve so heavily over a cat at the age of 20 years. He was old. But he was spry, kind, and if there had been signs my time with him was coming to a close, i was oblivious to them. Maybe I just didn't want to see it. I still don't.

sorry to show up and sad post :25kbeer:

condolences, that's so heartbreaking. I'm sure it was very hard for a 14 year-old cat to have his life upturned like that, and you were there to give him love and companionship in his final years. That means everything. Rest in peace Puck <3
