I thought it would be awful, too, and didn't even see it out of choice. However, the characters were instantly likable and the overall flow and feel of the story was spot-on. The only parts I didn't like were a few minutes towards the end and a few scenes involving the Twatt character

Ever watched "Life is Beautiful"(La Vita e Bella)? It's a great Italian film, one of my favorites. Be warned, the beginning is a bit misleading. There are two very contrasting parts to the movie.

The Last King of Scotland
Wow, I was waiting to see Forrest earn that Oscar, and by God he did! The movie felt unusually fast-paced, and at times I would have preferred a wider look at the more political side of things, but the movie was still very good to watch, and I think it would be impossible to attempt to watch it in chunks (as I do with most of the movies I've seen through the course of the last 30 or so days)

Barton Fink
Maybe my favorite Coen Brothers movie, at least tied with No Country for Old Men. Absolutely amazing, the cinematography was the best I've seen in any of the Coen Brothers movies, and it really did rely heavily on imagery, a great deal felt very kubrik-esque (which is a fucking good thing). The characters were all instantly lovable and the performances were top notch. Ace flick!

Not sure where to stand on this one. Yes, I certainly liked it, but not by a huge amount, and it recieved quite a lot more recognition than it possibly deserved. A lot of the characters seemed a little two-dimensional to feel like anything more than place-holders, and I can say it didn't real feel like it had aged well. One this I most definately can give the film credit for is being able to show a genuine, well-acted and believable variation on teenage depression without resorting to irksome angst-ridden cliche's.

Jack Nicolson, oh my God Jack Nicholson - directing, fffff, holy moly, never have I seen a scarier movie, and I'm not scared easily. I'm not trying to be a macho-internet tard saying I'm not scared easily, it's just movies in general are too obvious when trying to be scary for me. The fact that this movie was devoid of any "jump out with LOUD MUSIC and GETCHA" moments made it that much more satisfying to sit through.

Brining out the Dead
Nicolas Kage proves he can actually act, and by God he does a great job. The story was nice, and the characters were really easy to like, although the whole ghost thing felt forced in some areas. I liked the entire pleseantness of the characters, and the relations were nice.

The Shawshank Redemption
Wow, what a movie! No wonder it's number one on IMDB. Not a single dull moment in the film.

Wow, the animation was fucking amazing! I'm still surprised how great all the smoke looked. Story-wise it felt a little convoluted, and there were tons of good ideas and concepts in there, but not many were stretched out. I'm sure it works better as a manga

Also you should watch The Seventh Seal its one of those classics you HAVE to see.

Also 12 Angry Men If I didn't say that before. It is like chugging a quart of concentrated characters and conflict.

Oh and Jesus Christ Superstar because its just a good story I don't care what religion you are. I went and saw the Jesus Christ Superstar musical a few nights ago, Ted Neeley himself was in it. The guy is 65 years old but can still sing. But the guy who played Judas was phenomenal, like I mean this guy made me tear up a little.

It was suspenseful, which is great, but all the scares were really cheap.

Anyway, besides the somewhat cheap-looking animated segments the movie had a very good flow to it. However I couldn't quite tell what the film was going for. Nevertheless, if anything it's a good example of telling multiple stories in one film.

Shawshank Redemption and The Shining are pretty much the most loosely adapted Stephen King films. Shawshank was a short story turned into a feature length script by a really good writer and The Shining was adapted the shit out of by Kubrick. To be honest Stephen King is pretty rubbish most of the time.
