Now I remembered why you guys are no fun to discuss with!
But in the effort of furthering conversation, let me add this to the debate:
I enjoy ACDC for what they do. They themselves said "at the end of the day you wanna fuckin' rock, and that's why we have an ACDC."
That's all they do. Rock. When I'm in the mood for some riffage, ACDC is a pretty good choice.
Also, while we're on the subject of insulting radio listeners, have we estimated them so high as to say they even listen to Zeppelin? I'd say most of them have seen a Zeppelin shirt, and don't even know what Zepp sounds like. I listen to the radio every now and again. With the exception of the classic rock station, which is fairly decent, 90% of the radio is bullshit, not even worthy of quizzing the listeners as to who made it, let alone the album it was on

EDIT:
come to think of it, this kind of discussion is actually a lot more fun than staying on topic

  • Eric Clapton
I'd list more, but I don't need to.

Eric Clapton is an asshole and his music sucks.

DiscoBallClock

Quote from: RibsClock;1548210Eric Clapton is so badass that it was Jimmy Hendrix's dream to have the honor to play with him.

BB King said that Eric Clapton is the greatest and kindest person he has ever known.
I'm with CorpseGrinder on this one.

REAL PUNK:

[u2]7wilcAlAal8[/u2]

I know it's technically noise rock, but it's punker than Green Day.

REAL ROCK&ROLL:

[u2]d5KAvacoZF[/u2]

Well not technically rock & roll, but you could stick a dick in my mouth and I'd be happy as long as it didn't belong to AC/DC.

DingleberryClock

I wish I knew more BB King quotes so I knew what to think.

DingleberryClock

I think Eric Clapton is just swell.

Quote from: Loki Klokka;1548137Eric Clapton is an asshole and his music sucks.
I CAN AGREE

BUT

in my opinion, Eric has got to be one of the most emotional guitarists out there, which I say, redeems most of all of his flaws thank you very much

DiscoBallClock

I think we're settled that Eric Clapton is awesome.

Quote from: RibsClock;1550862Based on what?

Seriously, I am eagerly anticipating this amazing means by which you shall point out how Eric Clapton sucks.
well, I can agree that his songwriting skills are deep down in the crapper, that over the past 30 or so years he has brilliantly succeeded in eliminating all of his Cream legacy, that a lot of his output (especially in the 80s) is stupid pop crap, that he's no showman, that he only pretends to be "rocking" when in fact for a long time he's been doing nothing but soft sludge, lots of nasty shit.

Like I said, I can agree, but there's always at least one BUT in every argument.

ChimeClock

No no no, I'm just stating the usual complaints that people say about him. I, for one, adore the guy.

Maybe what I should of said was I understand the complaints, but I don't agree with them. Better?

DingleberryClock

ChimeClock, your opinion is wrong. The sooner you realize this, the sooner you can get a blowjob from RibsClock, since he loved like-minded cock in his mouth.

DingleberryClock

Because "I would rather watch Eric Clapton than Kanye" proves that he's good.

ChimeClock

Quote from: RibsClock;1550981Agree with who? Who said that except for you?
for one thing he was never a really prolific guy; he only penned about 2 or 3 songs in his Cream days, and for the most part, he does more covers than self-penned material. But, "limited songwriting skills" isn't a good reason to dismiss an artist
Quote from: RibsClock;1550981Funny, I would seem to think that he's rather built his own legacy by now. In fact, I think the name Eric Clapton is far better known these days than the band that he used to be in. People don't say "Former Cream member Eric Clapton" like they say about all of the Beatles, they just say "Eric Clapton" because that's all they need to say.
what I'm referring to are the people who praises his 60s output, but dismiss his later output as "soft rock" crap (again, that doesn't matter, it's if you play your instrument good or bad, which Clapton is definitely in the former)
Quote from: RibsClock;1550981I'm listening. Name one thing that counteracts the sheer badass of Journeyman.

Clapton experimented a lot during the 80s and frankly I think that he produced good stuff from it. You really haven't said anything that really changes that he's one of the greatest guitarists ever, and has been establishing a musical legacy for about forty years now that pretty much no other musician on earth can even touch, despite your best efforts to belittle it.
yeah Journeyman is a good album

again, what I'm referring to is the stuff he collaborated with Phil Collins, and if you say they're good, well good on you
Quote from: RibsClock;1550981I suppose the fact that he sounds just as good live as he does in the studio doesn't count? Or the fact that he never lip-syncs like half the "showmen" do today? Frankly I could not care less about Kanye's light show, I'll take watching Eric Clapton tear shit up on his guitar wearing a T-shirt and standing still any day of the week over that crap.

Guess we value different things.
I like both kinds of his output, I think Live at the Fillmore is the best live shit he ever released (even though the singing sucks dick)

I'm just looking at the guy in a mostly unbiased point of view, so it's looking like I'm jumping the gun a bit

ChimeClock

Quote from: DingleberryClock;1550995ChimeClock, your opinion is wrong. The sooner you realize this, the sooner you can get a blowjob from RibsClock, since he loved like-minded cock in his mouth.
I have same opinion as him, and I'd gladly have his dick

just a lil' misundstanding, ya see

DingleberryClock

Quote from: ChimeClock;1551010I have same opinion as him

Except you have the ability to DEBATE, and understand a differing viewpoint. Anyone that doesn't like Clapton and AC/DC knows nothing about music.

ChimeClock

well, fine, I'll go exorcise  my demons, just for you:

To anyone that doesn't like Eric: GET A LIFE YA BRAINLESS WANKER WHADDAYA KNOW OF CLAPTON ANYWAY? HAIL TO THE GOD!

ahhhh, much better.

ChimeClock

Quote from: RibsClock;1551036Now, arguing that "he's an asshole and his music sucks" is different than saying "He's a fantastic guitarist but does a lot more cover work than writing original songs himself."
Well since "his music sucks" is a vague statement, I'm was just presenting every argument there.
Quote from: RibsClock;1551036The fact that the man can play softer stuff along with badass songs like cocaine and layla and also do jazz and blues really well says something for his musical versatility.
Yeah, nice how he's still pretty diverse for having a "lagging" solo career. Still, blues would always be his main forte (From the Cradle would be a fantastic final album for Eric, but Pilgrim had to fuck it up. Sad.)

also I didn't realize Dingleberry was actually attacking you. Ah well

DingleberryClock

Alls I said was I like Clapton. I'm so misunderstood.

Silly Putty Clock

How did this turn from "Green Day is p. good" to "Eric Clapton is p. good"?
