Something I'm currently working on. Anything obvious that I should fix up? It's for one of my old teachers btw.
hello

Loki Clock

The content is in a screwy alignment. It should be left-aligned if anything.

I'd say I agree, but maybe just center. If you do left-align maybe experiment with some kookier backgrounds. Just to make the negative space interesting, though I don't mind the gradient. Also, you can do the effect you have for your navigation in Java, so if you're using Flash anyways why not making it a little flashier. See what I did there?

Nice work.

DWARFINATORclock

Unnecessary use of flash. Unless you make it flashier like FU said.

Quote from: CadillacClock;1603213The buttons need a lot of work. They're plain and ugly at the moment.

Plain isn't a bad thing. In fact, if you think it is, you're a shitty web designer.

AstronautClock

hey guys youtube buttons are so plain. same with google gosokogjdsgohsihgaog

Darkcherry

Justify the text.

Heliopios

Why do you use an image instead of a horizontal rule?

also what the fuck is this

break tags do that you know that right
:]

Loki Clock

What the fuck are the blockquotes for? Also, use an unordered list for the.. unordered list, and use CSS to change the default bullet to a dash.

I'll have a go at the kookier backgrounds. Did you mean instead of the gradient? Or instead of the 'bar' that the text/menu is on?

Not such a bad idea.

Quote from: Franklin G. Hamilton;1603211i would suggest making the links work~
Good point. That might actually be useful. Can you help me with some actionscript to make the buttons work? I'm kinda new at this and since you're so fucking awesome at just about everything I'm sure you could help me. Cunt.

I don't think you can change the colour of the horizontal rule. Also it doesn't matter what I use. It's less than 2kb so who cares.

The   thing is a blank line of some shit. It's different to a break. I don't really code with html though, I do it in dreamweaver and use the design panel instead. I understand all the html and stuff so I can fix it up and tweak it if I need to, but I don't see the why you would do build it all in HTML.

actually the entire HTML code is equally horrible
See above Mr. Helpful
hello

SpinningCubeClock

Also I don't know about the blockquotes, I pressed something in Dreamweaver, it didn't seem to do anything so I hit Ctrl+Z but it didn't seem to get rid of it. tbh this thread is about the look of it, not the source code.

How about you export them as images and use an image link?

QuoteI don't think you can change the colour of the horizontal rule.

Well you can.

QuoteThe   thing is a blank line of some shit. It's different to a break.

No it isn't.
on a line of it's own will be a blank line. In fact, stringing

s together will make that happen anyway.

QuoteAlso it doesn't matter what I use. It's less than 2kb so who cares.

You're inventing a worse wheel than the one you already have.

This is why your shit sucks.

Sarcasm.

I never said you couldn't, I just said I didn't think you could.

I don't fully believe you but I don't give a shit either way.

I don't see how it's really that much of a problem.

You're an asshole I hope you die.

In spite of the color scheme, I'm actually quite proud of that site!

Also, learn to take criticism better.

joliet_jane

I tried it IE6, and it looks good. That's quite an accomplishment.

a) The flash elements could be done in CSS just as well, though.

b) Don't use "-" as a bullet. Use bullets as bullets. You don't have to go to the trouble to make a list with tags. Just copy and paste the bullet character here:
············

c) Also, if you want to, you can stop the background from scrolling with:
background-attachment: fixed;

Heliopios

Quote from: SpinningCube;1603431in Dreamweaver

Using dreamweaver to make websites is like using premade cookie dough to make cookies.

Sure the alternative is easier to use, and sure, it might sometimes come out better than if you did it from scratch using your own knowledge, but if you keep using the metaphorical cookiedough to do all the hard stuff for you, you're not going to gain any skill.

The premade cookiedough is symbolic of dreamweaver, while the 'made from scratch' cookie dough is symbolic of notepad++.

Wow, really? You got me there, Socrates.

I like how, even after you start the post describing your simile, you end with a footnote just in case people didn't realize it.
