Okay, so a little over a year ago I got this project in class where I had to combine some works of a favorite artist, anything goes. There were a lot of bad not-quite-anime Vitruvian Mona Lisas and some arguable Pollock on top of Pollock paintings, so I tried to be a little offbeat.

I had been looking through a lot of your doodles, so I got some of my own graffiti stuff and scoured the supply closet since this was one of the few projects where you weren't restricted to one material or another. I had printed off some of your stuff for reference and to prove to the class that you existed.

I ended up with this:

Now, I didn't really have much of what you'd call "fine motor skills" so the images I made were usually not how I wanted them to look. I didn't want this to happen with this one, so I made it hella big.

But that's not the cool part. The cool part is I had a lot of glow in the dark nail polish and some glowing spray paint.

You can read by this stuff.

The head was originally the only part I wasn't satisfied with, but it's grown on me. You see I couldn't seem to draw a good ZL style head and I was running out of sharpie, so I soaked one of the reference images in glowstick juice and pasted it on.

Happy Birthday ZL.

That is one of the single coolest pieces of art I have ever seen come out of the Clockcrew.

Thanks you both, I'm glad it was received so well. I have some higher resolution pictures in my frogbag if you want to use one for your desktop, ZL.

The picture is ok at best. I have no idea what is really going on lol and the choice of colours seems a bit odd. It looks as though you were trying a little too hard to be abstract in the bottom half with the orange scribbles. The perspective is all whacked up and the composition is all crazy. I really like the glow in the dark nail polish though. I think a lot could come out of that.

I'm not trying to be an ass, I'm just giving helpful criticism because not many other people here will. Just ask Crust.

I prefer not to offer up criticism for paintings. It's not like you can re-open it in flash and make edits, and you can pretty much put anything on a canvas in paint and consider it art. Oh if only flash was so forgiving.

This here is a bit silly. It will help for the next painting/art he does. Not for this one. I'm just pointing out things that could be done better for next time.

Eh, I disagree. Painting is another world. Brush strokes and paint types is one thing, but as for the image itself, that should be totally up to the painter to decide for himself, and improve on himself.

Still, criticism is usually helpful for a beginning painter. If it looks shit, he should be told how to improve. If this was just something to show ZL, it should have probably been in General. Not the art/critique forum.

It's actually done after one of ZL's doodles. I always thought it looked like a city.

I'm cool with criticism though.

AH YES I SEE NOW. I STILL THINK HIS VERSION HAS A LITTLE MORE CHARM TO IT THAN WHAT YOU'VE DONE. I'M SORRY IF I'M SOUNDING LIKE AN ASS IM JUST TRYING TO HELP :(

I THINK IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER IF YOU HAD COPIED ELEMENTS FROM IT, NOT JUST THE ENTIRE THING.

I DID LIMIT WHAT I WAS DOING ON ACCOUNT OF I WAS AT SCHOOL, AND WILL LIKELY DO MORE ARTS USING PAINT AS SOON AS I FINISH THE MACHINE I AM BUILDING TO MAKE ME BETTER AT DOING ARTS WITH PAINT. I ALSO AGREE THAT THE COLORS ARE STRANGE, BUT THAT IS BECAUSE I ONLY HAD A PAINT MARKER AND A FEW RATTLE CANS TO WORK WITH ASIDE FROM THE CRAYONS AND STUFF I FOUND IN THE ART CLOSET. THINGS WOULD LIKELY BE MORE COORDINATED IF I MESSED WITH THE EXPENSIVE MATERIALS BUT I DIDN'T WANT TO DO THAT SINCE I WOULD USE THEM REALLY FAST.

THINGS ARE DISJOINTED, BUT I KIND OF LIKE IT THAT WAY. IN RETROSPECT I NOTICE THAT THE FLY IS THREE INCHES WIDE I THINK AND IT'S PRETTY LOPSIDED; THAT MAKES ME SAD SINCE THE FLY IS SUCH A SIMPLE SHAPE.

The end of the pant leg visible is drawn as a flat cutoff. It should be more or less cylindrical, meaning the outline of the end would be an ellipse cut off where it intersects with the sides. In order for ZL's leg to bend any bit to the left it would have to be at some angle so that as it gets closer to the viewer it will point to the sides of the vision rather than the center. As ZL is facing the center, exactly perpendicular to the viewer, this is impossible, for any stance that would leave his bones unbroken. But then it is ZL. It can be hard to develop a sense of when and where to bend the leg's profile in one direction or another, but the direction the foot is pointing will determine this, when you take the previous information into account. As well, though easier, it's generally unnatural for one to stand with their feet in an exact 90º angle. Try it, it's uncomfortable.
