I'm mostly playing infantryman, he seems to be a good way to learn the maps/works with my playstyle.

I'm more of a rifleman myself. I particularly like the M1 Garand. This is pretty much the case for me in any WW2 game I play.

I've been lucky to find some good servers that aren't full of whiny kids or sperglords (some people I've talked to seem to think those are common in this game but I don't know) and has caps for some of the classes (or is that default?).

I don't run into whiny kids in CS:S, DOD:S, or TF2 typically. I don't know if I'm lucky or what but whiny kids in source games really haven't been a problem for me. Same goes for "sperglords."
I'm pretty sure there is a default cap on the classes.

Woah seriously? Is that all servers? Because if so that's extremely useful to know.

I've never come across a server in which it didn't work.

I'm aiming to get it next time it's on sale. I'm not that interested in the game itself, but I'd like it for GMod/modding in general/griefing.

Is HL2: DM any good? It's only five bucks so I might grab it if it goes on sale with something else, but I heard its imbalanced and a bit wonky.

Really? It seems the common image of the average CS:S player is some guy who's memorized every map detail and takes the game way too seriously and flips out whenever something doesn't go his way. I guess it's probably not (completely) true. The TF2 community is great though, they're usually very chill and don't bitch at newbies.

Also did I seriously type out "sperglord" unconsciously? Haha dear god Something Awful has ruined my life.

HL2: DM was pretty much flooded with stuff like roleplaying servers last time I played (which admittedly was a long time ago.) If you can find a standard deathmatch or capture-the-flag server it can be fun, but it is true that it's not balanced.

Guys, this thread is now for all valve games, rather than just TF2. Rather than making a separate thread every time someone wants to get together a group for any valve game other than TF2, organize all matches for all valve games here.  This thread is also to be used for discussion of valve games (updates, news, trailers, videos, etc..)

I tried Synergy once a long time ago, I wasn't really a fan. Half-Life 2's campaign really just wasn't meant for multiplayer like that, in my opinion.

I'm looking forward to DotA 2. I played DotA back when I played Warcraft 3 and The Frozen Throne. These days I play League of Legends. (a free game which I highly recommend to DotA fans)
The best way for it to succeed is for them to go the free-to-play route with it like they did alien swarm. With League of Legends being free to everyone, and the upcoming Blizzard DotA being free to everyone who owns Starcraft 2, I don't know how popular and active DotA 2 would get if it wasn't free as well.

Apparently !medic does not work on all servers in DOD:S. I just came across one in which it was disabled and now I remember coming across others in the past.

Forbes recently listed the man as a ââ,¬Å"Name You Need To Knowââ,¬Â in 2011, due largely to his work with Steam, the leading digital distribution outlet.

Forbes isnââ,¬â,,¢t listing Newell as an important figure for no reason. Lest we forget Steam has accrued 30 million users since launch, and the service accounts for a whopping 70% percent of the digital distribution market, which is quite crazy.

The blizzard made DotA map for SC2 isn't meant to be a replacement for these games, they just wanted to make a fun map. They aren't going to put the development time and attention to detail that these other companies are.

Also, DotA 2 is being made by the person who does DotA allstars for WC3. He is really the one who made the game what it is now, not the guys who are currently working on LoL and say Icefrog 'stole' DotA from them.

Most of the DotA playerbase still plays DotA on WC3 using clients besides battle.net. Those on LoL and HoN are a smaller chunk of the playerbase. DotA is also very popular in China, and I feel they often are underrepresented.

DotA2 is the first game of this type to be developed by such a large company. Those who made LoL and HoN are much smaller in comparison to the resources Valve has. They are very committed to making a great game, so is Icefrog.
