The article says he took four bullets from a police officer, but, yeah, it does strike me as odd. Any of our military clocks want to drop some knowledge that would explain this? Was he the only one armed?

Well most of the time on a military installation the only soldiers that need to be armed are the MP's because well they control who come on and leaves the base. the only time that everyone is armed, locked, and loaded is when there is a known security threat. I don't think anyone saw this coming. The guy was not only a major(a rank which takes nearly a lifetime to earn) but a psych as well. and at that rank access to a weapon and ammo is real easy to get.

but he fucked with texas and they like to hang people. the end.

Thing is, I am suprised he didn't kill more people.
   
If you ever do military service what makes you weep is the fact that any cop and/or war movie ever has been ruined since you've come to realise you can pretty much kill anyone at over 250 meters with less than 2 shoots.

The huge risk of having loaded weapons and the security around the fact make military installations void of any real armaments unless someone locks them out.



So in short, real army/navy/airforce bases are usually just covered by some weak civil security at the gates whereas the real weapons are usually not out in the open and when they are there strictly controlled thus ensuring no weapon is lost.

So if you DID have a gun when no one else had it's pretty much fair game since most people won’t start unlocking huge vaults to grab a gun instead of just running and waiting for the police to get there.

Well you see, in the military you run around buildings and pick up weapons that are for no reason just laying there, like this.

Then you run around and kill as many people as you can. The difference in this situation is that he was playing sudden death and didn't allow for respawns.
