People keep dogs as pets an associate them with happier emotions most of the time, you really shouldn't be so surprised people care more about them. Also I think if the guy tossed a pig off the bridge people would still care.

I don't think animals are usually slaughtered by being dropped off of bridges. Besides, when they're slaughtered, it's for food, not purely out of cruelty. That guy didn't have to do that to the dog. Regardless of whether I'm a hypocrite or not, he's an asshole.

True, essentially. But technically I'm right, too. We're just as flesh and blood as anything else, and just as susceptible to death as any other living creature. Death is the ultimate equalizer and no matter how smart we all are, be it man or beast, we shall all wither to ashes and dust.
