Art thread. Things stuff drawings.
old ones:

I don't like what happened to the bottom-right corner of this picture :\

inspired by Ruger Clock's work: http://www.clockcrew.cc/talk/showthread.php?t=88091

Your second drawing almost blew my mind till I got to the bottom, like you said it's that bottom right portion that throws it off. Still epic though. As for the shading on the last one, you have good understanding of value, but your technique causes the shape in question to appear flat.

i.e. the shading on the head an cloak only semi follow the contour. Their going in the right direction based on the light source, but they don't follow the shape or outstanding details of the objects. A better example might be the scarf/wings. You want the shading to be the darkest in the corners or around the edges to give it depth, and you will want to have your pencil strokes follow the flow of the object instead of just straight lines that you *blended by smearing*. Use technique and pressure for a better shade, and make sure your strokes follow the contour of the shape or object.

TelephoneClock

Ah, I see what you mean about the head! Like how instead of following around it and curving like a sphere, it's just kind of a straight line. I'll definitely have to study real-life examples more, as this is my first time being serious about shading (although that's not really a good excuse, now is it?). I didn't really want to have to smear the cape, but I couldn't find a way I liked the shading to go on that. It might help if I draw with some darker pencils, but I'll definitely take your advice! Thank you! :D

Also, glad you liked that second one there! I regret the fact that I was tired at the time and just wanted to fill in that spot quickly before I fell asleep. Maybe I can think of something better to put there later...

All I would say is don't use your psychedelic style to get around bits of anatomy and stuff that you don't understand. If you're planning to study anatomy then you're probably already aware of that but just be careful it doesn't become a crutch. Good luck with your studying.

Converse

The snake worm thing in the second drawing has the greatest mouth I've ever seen. I love it

Hmm, good point. I see how that could happen, and I'll be sure to keep that in mind. Thanks!

@Converse: Thank you :) It's amazing what you can think up with a simple squiggly line!

Not so much a critique but something that will make your scanned work look a lot better: open up the images in photoshop and raise the contrast level. I find myself doing this all the time and it really does make the pencil/paper-type work look better.

:this: the second one seems somewhat faint, i wasn't able to enjoy it to the extent intended
Quote from: FLOUNDERINYOBUTT;1837615I think Kodiak is the only person on  this entire website who dislikes Slurpee. I still dont understand how  thats possible. He\'s so loveable and funny. Every guy wants to be his  friend and every girl wants to date him. Understandably Slurpee is not a  very happy person.

I messed around with the contrast for that picture, i'm gonna start drawing with darker pencils okay okay good.

It looks a lot better. Also I wouldn't stress too much about using darker pencils, if they look fine to you in person then I wouldn't worry about it.
I just think scanned illustrations always usually turn our a lot lighter then then they're meant to be.

TelephoneClock

Truthfully I need some lighter pencils so I can focus on what I'm drawing as opposed to the eraser marks. But I digress :p

PankoClock

Everything looks beautifully macabre,I love it.

I'm having a fun time imagining that mohawk thing scuttling around a Bestbuy reorganizing all of the dvds and things with it's giant hand.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention how awesome that snake thing is.

I keep reading all your posts in Brak's Dad's voice.

CeleriacClock

The second and the last ones look wicked, have you tried coloring them in on photoshop or anything yet?

ChocolateCoffin

You have a very nice linear style. I'm not sure how I dig the final picture, but the others are quite nice. I'd be interested to see some drawing from life rather than your head.

If I were to attempt that they would look too cartoony and lose their charm :\ I need to improve my photoshop skills as well.

Okay guys, here's some concept art for a future movie project:

It's a demon, in case you couldn't tell. Not sure what kind of head to use, though I'm kinda diggin' the skull shape. You're thoughts? Suggestions? Also, let it be known that the demon is portrayed as a Lock only so that it may be killed in a HORRIBLY PAINFUL DEATH OF BLOOD AND ROCK!
