i kind of figured that the reset conditions would have the guardians playing the game rather than the kids. hence, the kids would be the new guardians, and jade could actually be the penpal's grandma

the kids don't have the anomaly of not being spawned in the session they're currently playing, because they totally were. but they also didn't fail due to inadequacy, so much as being fucked sideways by all the things the trolls screwed up. which is probably something to do with the "unfathomable cascade of misfortune" doc scratch refers to.

that said, the kids' bargain doesn't seem to be going the same way the trolls' did, either. with the trolls, they met with the mother of all monsters (?) and she let them retry with the tacit implication that it could fuck something up elsewhere (which it did). for the kids, doc scratch's end of the bargain was just that rose kills him so lord english can show up.

in terms of doc scratch, though, since he has to die to summon english, and since the kids have to destroy the green sun to kill scratch, and I'm pretty sure there's only one green sun, I get the sense that a first guardian being the servant of lord english is quite rare, which would seem to imply his capacity for interference with the development of a species is pretty unique. so, if I had to guess, I'd say we won't be seeing a human race carefully groomed to be douchebags after the reset.

the trolls had scratch's calling card glitch in their session, and he specifically says their species wasn't prepared for the rigors of the game.
the kids only had two things go wrong- the session was cancerous and would not bear a new universe under any circumstances, which scratch has implied will be fixed with the reset, and prototyping becquerel, which seems to me to be an easy thing to avoid by shifting the starting conditions ever so slightly- butterfly effect and all that.
