Seriously, there's better software out there. The developers that made 3.x so good left after Internet Brands bought them, and now the new management is screwing it all up. Drama ensued

What did I just read.

Did you even look at what they did? Unnecessary price gouging, many more bugs than ever before, managers who take summer vacations, etc? Heck the theme system doesn't use CSS at its core, forcing the use of these bizarre properties and stuff. No wonder half the vB 4 forums I've seen have only managed to make simple recolors of the default.

I rest my case that anything is better than vBulletin right now. UBB has been on a good trail right now, and despite the fact that the UI looks a little outdated in comparison, they're still keeping the current version updated well, and they're playing a huge game of catchup for their next major release, which just looks amazing so far. Oh, and it wouldn't take too much for the users to get used to since I'm starting to think the vB 3 devs stole layout ideas from this one. Or just IPB 3.1, which to me looks pretty amazing.

I'm not just wagering in appearance (though appearance does weigh a bit in my analysis of forum software), but also performance. I saw a live comparison showing that phpbb 3 was quicker at loading pages than vB 4. Another review of the initial release pointed out getting an out of memory error at first and that the CMS module used an average of 200 SQL queries to generate.

This thread mightaswell summarize everything that is wrong with vB 4.

edit: Oh oh, two former vBulletin developers are working on a brand new forum script called XenForo, it looks pretty good.
