oblivion is pretty good I got it a few months ago and have been playing it lately I spent the money I had to blow. should have saved a stash for skyrim cause im sure its rad but ill be patient because Im sure they will find a flaw and then I can buy the later version that isnt fucked up when I get more cash

Ok so I have never played any Elder Scrolls game yet and Oblivion is on sale right now. Is it worth getting it? I've read that Skyrim is obviously way way way better, but yeah...

I'd wait a little bit. It definitely has its Oblivion moments. In fact besides the graphics and aesthetic adjustments, it feels very similar imo.

i dont have a save from fucking 30 hours ago when I beat the damn questline nor would i be willing to do all the shit over again for one quest. fucking make it so an imperial legion guy will also give you the quest. fix your fucking shit god damn

It was really disappointing how bad the faction missions were after the awesome ones in New Vegas. The faction missions in Skyrim felt like Dynasty Warrior with way crappier combat.

so for no reason i started swimming north of dawnstar just to see whats at the edge of the map

there is a surprising amount of glacier water, floating ice and nothingness which i enjoyed exploring. i thought this big ass glacier in the water was the edge of the map but then i swam around it and kept going. there was other glaciers and i managed to climb one for a decent view. i found nothing. it was pretty cool

I've done this. I always pray for some kind of mind boggling discovery when I reach the edge, like they work in the edge of the world or there are giant sea monsters waiting to eat you, etc. There never is, but at least Skyrim is still beautiful throughout.

The actual full map for the game (viewable only via console commands) includes the entire continent of Tamriel, although in very minor detail. So hypothetically you could go south and reach Elsweyr, although it would require noclip and is probably super buggy. Going north just has nothing though. All the terrain up there is just randomly generated.

So I'm pretty intrigued by Skyrim from a gameplay perspective but I'm put off because I didn't like the other Elder Scrolls games and I think really generic fantasy kind of sucks. Is there anyone here with similar tastes who found Skyrim to be good anyway?

I also disliked the other elder scrolls but I got skyrim as a xmas gift so I shall let you know what I think once I start.

I am really really not into fantasy at all. I thought Skyrim was an amazing game because the fighting is fun, there's tons of cool areas to explore and only one or two quests sucked, though not terribly. The best thing about it you get to do everything however you want and the game doesn't ever force you to do something.

I really hate medieval/fantasy stuff because I can never get into the ridiculous stories, the weird english and dragons and orcs an all.

However, despite my hate for medieval fantasy, Skyrim shines alone for the adventuring/leveling of your character.
