There's a difference. Amoebas are simply just the one eukaryotic single-cell organism, a slime mold is an amalgam of many amoebas in conditions when food is scarce. It's said to be a representation of the early stages of multicellular evolution as there are parts of the slime mold that form a "fruiting body" filled with spores and a non-reproducing somatic "Stem". They're pretty cool.
