The only MMO I'm really looking forward to right now is Guild Wars 2.

I've always been a fan of Guild Wars, and the sequel looks to blow the first one out of the water in every way. One of the main things that's great about the Guild Wars series is that there's no subscription fees. You buy the game and the expansions once and they're yours forever. Sure, other MMOs like LOTRO and D&DO have gone with the free to play model, but you still have to buy the content with them such as quest packs and expansions, and even after you buy all the content you still don't have quite all the access that subscribing players have. With Guild Wars, anyone who has bought the game and expansions has the same access, no subscriptions needed for anything.

Guild Wars 2 promises to rethink typical MMO game features like combat, questing, and story. Combat is much more interactive, the story is deeper, and the questing is much more involved and varied than your typical MMO. For example, instead of getting a bunch of quests like "these centaurs raided my camp, go kill ten of them for me" and then you go kill ten centuars in a field, you'll actually see the raid happening and have to go stop it. That's at least how they have said that a lot of the questing works in this game. Of course I assume there will be NPC conversation-given quests too, but this new way of questing seems cool. Also, they are trying to lessen the whole "grinding" aspect that you get with other MMOs. I'm really interested to see how they do all this, but an MMO game with more quests and less grind, not to mention the more user-involved combat, better story, better social aspects, and great graphics should make for a great game.

Watch this video, it's basically the developer's manifesto regarding the game. It explains the game much better than I did just now.

TL;DR: Watch that video.

EDIT: There is no specific release date yet

I own the entire series of Guild Wars and have completed Prophecies and Eye of the North. I am (and have been for a while) looking forward to Guild Wars 2, recently I've being going mad with my Hall of Monuments to get them slick awesome items for my new characters etc.

I'm liking everything so far and GW2, so long as they keep the mission-esque style gameplay, I quite enjoy it; however, one thing I do not like about it is the skill bar. In my opinion they have totally ruined it! A compulsary healing skill? I don't want to have to think about healing! That's what the healers are there for!

In addition, I hear they have (or are going to) taken out the whole hero/henchmen thing, so now it is totally player driven. Sounds like a lot of fun. If you've got a good internet connection.

Also: Charr Ranger for the win!

Yeah I recently started playing GW1 again too. I have Guild Wars, Nightfall, and Factions, but not Eye of the North. I started two new characters, if I get through all three campaigns with both of them and GW2 still isnt coming out for a while, I'll buy Eye of the North.

I don't see what's so bad about the skill bar in GW2. Everything about the combat seems great in my opinion.

Yeah the world all in all seems to be much more awesome than GW1's since it's player driven.

I'll probably start out playing a Human, and probably a Charr as an alt. I'm not sure which classes yet though.

I remember Guild Wars was my first MMO. I got it when I was 14 and knew nothing about MMOS or even PC gaming.

I tried to play it on the shittiest computer with a subpar DSL connection. I remember being mad when they blew up the nice pretty world I was playing in and suddenly everything was all burned and full of evil monsters. I tried playing solo as a DPS mesmer/necromancer

Ahh those were the days

I might pick up guild wars 2 just because it is a MMO without a monthly fee. I like to play my games a while and then pick them up again months later whenever I want.

GearBoxClock

I can't wait to grind against centuars until epic armour is dropped! (I have never played Guild Wars)

WiiClock

Watching this boss fight video got me pretty excited.

You're damn right I am. I've been looking forward to it for 2 years. I don't play many games these days but I will not miss out on this.

I'll probably have to wait a while to get it though. Money issues and such, etc.

DurianClock

I played the shit out of the first one and all the expansions to it. This one's looking really good. RadishClock was an avid Guild Wars player as well.

I can't remember a time when I wasn't tight on money.

What server is everyone on?

Also, hi.

buttplug

Not really planning on getting this, Dark Souls is filling my RPG niche currently.

NintendrCkolc

Bought this today. Wasn't really planning on getting it but i've been in need of something new lately.

Pretty impressed with it so far. Cool story elements, awesome random world events in which EVERYONE gets in on, tons to do, fantastic music, nice combo system. Apparently theres some bugs at the moment but that's not completely unexpected. The game isn't unplayable by any means. Definitely worth checking out.

Someone gifted me the game OH HELL YEAH

It's so good. Unlike the me of years ago, I don't really play many games any more, and I don't buy many new games at all. Especially MMO's because I tend to try to get into one and get bored with it within a month. No game in a very long time has pulled me in like Guild Wars 2 has.

First impressions from a day of playing (and following the game while in development; ) it's absolutely fantastic. MMO's as a whole were probably the genre I was the most bored of. From a gameplay perspective, GW2 is probably the first MMO that has it right. It's really the kick in the ass the entire very stagnant MMO genre needed.

I'll probably be playing this for a very long time.

NintendrCkolc

Hit level 20 yesterday. Why aren't more of you playing!!!

TruthClock

I'm on maguuma.

I have to say, this is the most fun i've ever had in an MMO since GW1, and this time you can jump.
