...this bothers me. Duke Nukem Forever is a 3D Realms game. When 3D Realms went under, the former 3D Realms devs (Triptych Games) continued development from their homes. The deal with Gearbox happened and Triptych took up office at Gearbox Studios. Pitchford became the face of the operation because he's someone of reasonable respectability within the game industry and he worked on the Plutonium PAK ("Atomic Edition") for Duke Nukem 3D as his first project within the industry.

Gearbox doesn't deserve the blame on this one. 3DR does. If you want a face to blame, it's this one:

If Gearbox wanted to start DNF all over, it would have required another 3-4 years of development on a completely new engine. Maybe that would have been for the best. Maybe Forever would have been a much better game if it was completely revamped without the supervision of Broussard and with some kind of dedicated vision as to what it was going to be from start to end. However, that is not the case. What we have here is more or less, for better or worse, the completed version of what 3D Realms what trying to finally get finished back in May 2009. A few months before that, Broussard said "Game developers often say "Cutting is shipping". We begin this year with a vengeance and a chainsaw.", so it's fair to say that the game got cut down a fair bit from what maybe was or should have been.

But again, this isn't Gearbox's fault and it's just as wrong to point fingers at Pitchford. At this point, at least, a 14 year venture into development hell has finally ended. It wasn't exactly a happy ending, but the game has topped UK sales charts and if it continues to sell like that it may be lucrative enough for Gearbox to put this series back into action and then, maybe then, we can get a real, true, and great successor to Duke Nukem 3D.

Until then, however, I'm going to play Forever. it may not be a great game, or even a good game. But it is, after more than 3/4ths of my life, finally done.

TL;DR - Rob's a fanboy, and Blame 3DR not Gearbox.

On a note actually somewhat related to the subject i started this huge fucking tangent on; Jim Sterling is an annoying fat fuck. But I agree, that is really messed up. (even though it was kinda already in Duke 3D)

I found the section of the game in question on Youtube:

Watch the Giant Bomb quick look. The level in question is one of the first ones they go through and their impressions are pretty much spot on to what mine are. The whining is really annoying.

WrenchClock

The video's not as bad as the review made out.

LimewireClock

I took my time with that level...

BUMP!

Duke Forever DLC is on it's way, and there was a recent slip up on Steam revealing new achievements.
