Okay, the titular character looking like a Duke Nukem ripoff may not be the best first impression, but Croteam plans on bringing back old school first-person shooting back to the 21st century with Serious Sam 3!

What is Serious Sam?
A first person shooter where there's only one goal: Kill anything that isn't you or your co-op buddies.  Should you play the game in singleplayer, expect a great deal of frustration as you will be inevitably overwhelmed by the swarms of aliens and magical creatures while holding down the trigger.  However, there is more fun to be had when you're playing a co-op game, as you'll have someone to laugh at since they'll join in on getting blown up. And Serious Sam 3 is a much-needed throw-back to the days when shooters had only one simple mindset: Use big guns. Kill bigger enemies.

Aaaand here's some youtube videos in case you're not convinced.

Also, be sure to add me on Steam, cuz I can't get a refund on this game just because I don't have enough friends to play the 16 player co-op campaign!

I thought we had another thread on the go for this? Oh well.

I really wanna get it. Unfortunately, I think I'm stuck waiting on the 360 version for now.

Quote from: RibsClock;1876267It's called hiring a replacement when someone doesn't do their damn job.

Which, if the Duke franchise had done in the first place, we wouldn't all be awkwardly noting that a silly little backwater developer like Croteam did a better job and faster.

Duke Nukem Forever = Serious Sam 2. The series are kind of on-par, as far as I'm concerned.

Looking forward to this game so much, you have no idea.

Action and I have been doing co-op on The Second Encounter recently.  The game is a million times more fun with co-op, and even more millions of times of funses when I finally found out there was a third-person mode.

  • Serious Sam 2 was good

I will give you all points but this. TFE is good, TSE is good. SS2 is a stinker.

I really don't want to get in a Duke vs Sam debate, because it's sort of pointless. I'm not going to deny that Forever is a turd, but I dont see Serious Sam as comparable to Duke beyond that they're both the titular characters of their respective series. Duke 3D was a keycard hunt with creative level design and some genuine personality. Serious Sam is straight up run-and-gun with a variety of big guns. It's like if both apples and oranges were popular in the 90s, but since then the apple retailers went to shit, and the orange guys have remained consistent.

So... yeah. Needless debate. Serious Sam is awesome, Duke 3D was awesome, 3D Realms fucked up. That's all there is to say on the subject.

wait i thought the second encounter was serious sam 2

EDIT:: Well I guess not.  My mind just got blowed

Also, during the time I have played the game, I have found out that it's sliiiiiightly unplayable without a co-op buddy.  So if you do plan on getting this, pray that you've got a co-op buddy.

What Ribs said.  Beating Serious Sam 1 on hard made a man out of me

Quote from: RibsClock;1876389What in that it's preposterously hard and features a horribly overwhelming number of enemies fucklering you from every angle?

...I mean, I can only assume this based on the fact that it's a serious sam game and they're all like that.

To be honest, the first Serious Sam was easier, up until you reach the Great Pyramid.

Serious Sam HD The Frist Encounter and The Second Encounter are available on Steam today for $3, so I picked them up. I'll definitely be up for playing some co-op sometime.

$3 total for both games, it's 90% off today only.

If i wasn't too busy trying to get the old school achievement in Serious Sam 3, I'd join up with you!
