He has disappointed me with a few things, but at the end of the day I see a well-educated, well-spoken, thoughtful leader who is often fighting against intense partisan opposition and FOX News' ability to sway public opinion.

His biggest shortcoming appears to be his inability to effectively stimulate the economy, but A.) There's no guarantee that anyone else would be doing a better job fixing the turd sandwich he was handed in '08 and B.) Republicans are trying to confuse people into thinking the deficit = the economy, so when he tries to stimulate spending to get things moving they just bitch about how he's raising the debt and won't let him do anything.

Barack Obama is thought by many to be doing a great job.

But what job is that? And for whom? Some call him a hit man for the gay agenda, or the Joseph Goebbels of radical Islam. Some suggest he's merely a manager, giving our jobs to the Indians and Mexicans and paying them with money borrowed from the Chinese. Me? I've said none of these things: this is a no-spin zone.

Tbh I think we need a serious change in the system if we're gonna fix the economy and Barack isn't the president that's gonna do that.

That may be true, but neither are Mitt Romney, Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin, Rick Perry, or Ron Paul. If we re-elect Obama, things may actually improve, but if we elect a Republican instead it will most definitely get worse. All that said, Obama actually has gotten quite a bit done. Don't forget that a few short years ago we had a FAR more exploitative healthcare system, no new stem-cell lines, a military where homophobic discrimination was policy, and an economic situation that could have gotten much worse than it has.

These are not easy times, and it's easy to just point at the guy in office and blame him, but you have to remember that we's recovering from 8 years of Bush's mismanagement as well as a burst bubble that had more to do with private irresponsibility.

Obama's not exactly the guy I want in the White House, but he's the closest to what I want that I see in the running.

I hear a lot of complaints about Obama but nobody actually says what they think could be done from his position.

Real change requires public uprising, that's not Obama's job, it's ours. You want to help, get your ass to a major city and occupy it.

I know it's our duty too but it's frustrating when you look at who Obama chose to be on his staff after he campaigned so much on "change". He might not be able to completely restructure the system, but he is the president of the united states. And I know one thing he could do: Hire people for his staff that don't have huge ties to Wall Street. And also not give in to opposing demands so readily. And repeal the goddamn bush tax cuts.

I have followed american politics strictly through the Daily Show, so my opinion is quite biased towards the left, but IMHO Barack Obama seems a thousand times more trustworthy than most of these idiots on the republican side. And leave it to republicans not to put forward someone like Ron Paul, who has ideas that go beyond "we gotta fix arr money, we gotta fix washington and stop arr kids from having sex", but some complete nutjob like Michelle Bachman, or worse, Rick Perry.

He is. Obama's actually done quite a lot but he doesn't make a ton of noise about it. He's also done some things I disagree with, but he'll protect the institutions that allow a huge chunk of our country to scrape by. Things like foodstamps, social security payments, public health care, and student loans. I've conducted a couple of phone surveys in California about politics, and it blew me away how many people were perfectly happy to cut everything across the board, including k-12 schooling, higher education, food stamps, welfare, you name it. A lot of people in the United States have a totally warped and uneducated perspective on social issues and it's really fucking us up. Ron Paul's a psychopath too. He wants to not just cut but eliminate all our public services. Crazy batshit man. I agree with him on a point or two, but he'd ruin the country just as thoroughly as any tea party candidate.
