The CCCC! With the recent food related contest involving tacos and bells, it got me thinking about my fellow chefs within the community, and I was wondering if we were to do some sort of cooking competition( which would obviously involve a lot more work than just driving down to taco bell and photographing yourself looking sick next to some crumbled up wrappers) how would we go about it?

Rhetorical question: I know how, bitch.

We get three judges and however many participants and shuttle off our dishes to each judge, who score each dish on a 1 to 10 scale, winner gets 40 bucks out of my pocket.

Thats right.

40 bucks.

I'll do it.

I'm crazy.

Don't get your Grandma to do it just because money is involved and you're poor.

I am having trouble deciding one thing, though, and that's whether or not this should be just like Iron Chef or not. The Iron Chef part that will be true to form is that everyone has to cook on a certain date, whenever that may be in their homeland, like Novemeber 1st is when you gotta cook it, but I don't know if I should ask everyone to use a certain ingredient, like you HAVE to have cabbage involved, or something. HMMM what do you guys think? Would you guys be down to rumble in the CRUMBLE!?

AbsintheClock

I might be sick now, but I will still outcook all y'all motherfuckers. Real talk though, if you want to fund this I'll facilitate it. PM me and we'll arrange some time to talk on AIM about it.

WrenchClock

Made me think of this flash from when i were a lad.

miracle fruit

this sound like a really good idea for a contest actually

i have some questions though

what do you mean by 'shuttle off our dishes to each judge'

i mean
how is the food going to be judged? via photograph/video?
no taste test?

throwing the food in the mailbox might work
it might be a lil cold by the time it reaches the judges though

or will you have to provide an in-depth recipe from which the judges will follow?
i just dont get it

everyone cooking on a certain date is a really bad idea. i can say it will decrease participation by at least 100%

this is a good idea. it would work best if you were going to have at least a couple cooking contests, so you could try out different themes etc

if this is only going to be a one-shot deal i would recommend just letting the cooks do their thing. but set some loose specifications (like dinner, breakfast, lunch, dessert etc) so that everybody doesn't vote for the guy who made the delicious strawberry ice-cream dessert over the guy who made the steak n carrots dinner hur hur

also original recipes should be mandatory or something. make it unique and all that good stuff

AMPEEEM

-Well I'm thinking we'll have to send our food through the mail, so keep that in mind when you make it.

-Yeah your right about the date.

-And I suppose we should do a few categories, what do you guys think about a meal contest, anything that could stand to be a lunch or a dinner, and then a dessert contest, which would much more baking based.

-And yes original recipes are a must, and all recipes should be listed on the site so we know exactly what went into the dish and we all the know the winner was so-and-so clock and not the guy who invented AI Steak sauce.

So few foods can survive airmail :(

Flan Clock

I can make some killer flan. Don't know about fedexing it though. How bout I just fly over there and make it?
Then we can all have a slumber party and make a fort out of pillows!

I didn't know mailing food was possible.

Why don't we post the recipes online and just have the judges make it themselves? That way they get the benefit of tasting the meal fresh while the participants don't have to worry about postal nonsense (fees and whatnot).

We could just all make cookies.

Zeffy

i would like to but the cost of shipping would kill me so they don't arrive crumbled up.

Also, if the judges were to make the recipes, we would have to ensure they use exact ingredients. for example, the type of butter you use can strongly impact the taste.

That and I doubt many people want to spend 3 hours making dulce de leche.

AMPEEEM

At this point its either going to be more of a baking contest, OR, a straight recipe contest. I can say, personally, that if you post a recipe, I'll make it, mainly because I love cooking and am always looking for new things to make anyway.

TelephoneClock

I need to learn how to cook so I'll just steal all the recipes be an honorary judge.

Lulz
I can also be a judge if it's going to be a straight recipe contest. I love to cook and have a bunch of a lot of places close to my house (2 big food chains, bakery, butcher, organic food store, asian market, ggggg). Can also take pictures of the process too.

Time well spent.  I'm just gonna make some and post it in a thread anyway.  And just describe the taste as "better than sex"

So true
I just take a can of sweetened condensed milk and put it on a double boiler for a good 2-3 hours and stir a bit.

Then i make some awesome shortbread made with european cultured butter and vanilla bean. Make the cookies so they have an indent (you have to use corn startch in the dough so the retain the shape to hold the filling) fill the space with the dulce du leche and then cover them with chocolate.

Most people don't realize it the filling until it's bitten into.
It's an awesome fuckin' cookie.

That sounds amazing :aaa: I'm doing that when I get the chance!

DiscoBallClock

I suggest we do it like this: People apply in a thread, then send or post their recipes until a certain date, then the judges cook them at home and choose a winner and a runner-up.

About the recipes, they should be as exact as possible, so include the brand of the products you're using. Since we all live in different countries, it's likely that the brand won't be available here or there, so post the important quality that made you choose that specific brand, e.g "salty butter", "purple onion", etc.

If we're doing this, that's the really the way to do it.
We need a set date and two other people besides me who can buy all the ingredients and make the food, then after we'll vote and have a winner!
